Following the Christmas break, it was back to Cup action for the teams in the Kon-x Wales Anglesey League, as they focused on the Quarter- Final of the Lucas Oil Cup and waved goodbye to 2016.

Llangoed & District 2 v 1 Bethesda Res. with THANKS to Vince

The youngsters who make up Bethesda Reserves registered their first victory before the Christmas break but faced a difficult tie as they travelled to the LUCAS OIL CUP Holders, and League Leaders, L:langoed and District. The visitors began well enough, but the hosts were having a lot of possession but not really penetrating the Bethesda back line. On . 25 minutes Lewis Hughes got passed a pretty solid looking back line only to see his shot smash against the bar and up and out for a goal kick. Twelve minutes later the visitors shocked their hosts by taking the lead. Awarded a Free Kick deep inside their own half, their keeper launched it forward and it floated over the whole Llangoed defence and fell at the feet of Adrian Jones 12 yards out for a simple finish to give an unlikely lead. Somewhat stunned the hosts slowly began to pass the ball around, and with more purpose and on 41 minutes they were level. Callum Graves picked the ball up inside his own half and played an exquisite 40 yard ball which Wayne Thomas controlled brilliantly but the strikers effort was stopped by the impressive keeper but couldn't stop the follow up from the inform Thomas. It seemed the second half would follow a similar pattern with the game lacking, passion or, excitement. But a change of system in the 2nd half for the home side had an instant impact when on 49 minutes they took the lead. Yet another Thomas effort was again saved by the keeper only for the ball to fall to top scorer Carwyn Williams for an easy tap in.
Llangoed well on top at this point could have been 3-1 up when a deep cross landed flush on Williams head and hie perfectly placed his header in the net only to turn and see the linesmans flag raised for offside. Llion Roberts could have added one extra but again saw his effort cannon up and out off the crossbar. With no further goals the game finished 2-1 to Llangoed which sees them safely into the semi final with Lewis Hughes picking up the man of the match award.

BODORGAN Juniors 2 v 4 aet Bryngwran Bulls
with THANKS to Robin

The two teams produced an exciting encounter that needed extra time and a quality hat-trick to decide the semi-finalists. It took the Juniors just five minutes to forge ahead , Arron Jones meeting a right wing cross to calmly placed his shot wide of the keeper and into the net
.This stirred the Bulls into action and James Ryan went close but the Juniors midfield and defence held on and kept their shape, that is until the 24th minute, when James Ryan found space to unleash a shot that home keeper Roberts saved, parrying the ball away only for Ryan to pounce on the rebound to equalize. .The Juniors were getting the better of the half and on 35 minutes Elliot Patterson regained their lead. Positioned around the penalty spot with his back to goal the Bulls defence were unduly concerned but as the cross came over from the left, he leapt in the air to connect perfectly with an acrobatic over-head kick that hit the net before anyone moved. The Bulls worked hard to get back on equal terms but the Juniors held firm until the last action of the half as Nathan Lewis rounded the defence and fired home to equalise [45[ .
Half Time 2v2

The second half saw the Bulls gain the initiative and prompted by Dylan Jones began to play their passing game, James Ryan had a couple of half chances that went just wide. At the opposite end Bod’ had sporadic attacks but ended with Patterson and Allaway firing wide. The Bulls then had a Speight of corners but the host defence held firm.
.Full Time 2v2.
Both teams started extra time desperately looking for that all important `first’ goal, and despite the hosts enjoying the better chances no further goals were scored . The second period was different as the teams tired openings began to appear and after 107 a long throw-in found James Ryan who slotted the ball home to give the visitors the lead. Now the Juniors had to throw caution to the wind and go for it, but as they pushed more men forward they left themselves venerable at the back and when an attack broke down on 109 minutes , James Ryan...who else...once again struck to settle the tie and claim the match ball as he completed his hat-trick.

AFTER MATCH COMMENT: from Bodorgan
We wish Bryngwran all the best in the next round . They converted more of their chances and deservedly go through. , but we at Bod’ can take comfort in the fact that we gave the Bulls a match and unlike the league result held firm for well over 90 minutes which would have secured a point if a league match.
