AS MAES Y BRYN TURN SCREW IN 2ND HALF

REPORT COURTESY OF MR ROBERT GRIFFITHS:-

The remaining game saw third placed Maes y Bryn journey to Bodorgan where the hosts played into a stiff wind in the first half. Despite this, the juniors had a number of chances with Marcus Rowlands blasting over from twelve yards, and on 5 minutes thundering a shot from 25 yards which hit the post and under side of the bar only to bounce back into play. On 6 minutes Rowlands was put through again but this time he was taken down for the referee to point to the spot for a penalty. Up stepped Luke Allaway and the juniors were ahead 1 - 0. Lifted by the start the hosts drove forward and Allaway blasted over the bar then Connolly had a shot off target and Rowlands again squandered a chance. As the half was ending Maes y Bryn got a foothold in the game and prompted by Aron Jones they created chances. Half Time 1v0.
The Juniors now had the wind to their backs but just as Maes y Bryn found ,it was deceptive and on 47 minutes Luke Lloyd looped a cross over Murphy the home keeper .This gave Maes y Bryn energy and `Mali’ Vaughan and Aron Jones started to dominate, and on 54 minutes Clarke popped up to score from close range. On 60 minutes Connolly tried a long shot for the juniors which sped over the crossbar. Maes y Bryn continued to press and missed several opportunities then Ainsworth broke free after a period of juniors pressure and although Murphy saved the first attempt Ainsworth converted the second time.
Manager Dave can take heart, the football played today by the Juniors was of a better standard, if only those chances could be taken. For Maes y Bryn Harry Jones was outstanding closely followed by Aron Jones nice to see the young lads doing well especially as Aron started his football years ago with Bodorgan .Really nice to see Mali Vaughan again as I reminded him, he was a striker for Newborough back in 1988, happy days, he's still class and was a solid old head at the back.
