BOTH BAYS BAG POINTS

WITH WINS ON THE OPENING DAY

HOLY iSLE 1 V 3 CEMAES BAY

TREARDDUR BAY UTD., RES., 4 V 1 GAERWEN RESERVES

After what was a most unusual `pre-season’, where the Gwynedd League not only took the KonX Wales Anglesey league Champions but also two other clubs as well. Then we had two clubs that made application to join, one having stepped down from a senior League, the other with no league to go to following the demise of the Caernarfon & District league after the Gwynedd League took three of its teams. Both were accepted and then one rejoined the league it had resigned from, and the other pulled out after being included in the fixtures and cup draws in the week before kick-off.
So when the KonX Wales Anglesey league finally kicked off season 2014/15 it did so with NINE teams in membership, but whilst secretary Dave McCann was obviously disappointed with the number, he was quick to point out that, “ it’s all about quality not quantity, and I do not envisage scores of 9-0 or double figures. Neither do I expect one or two clubs to dominate as in previous seasons, not if the results from the friendlies against `senior clubs’ are anything to go by.

Reports

Cemaes Bay, who finished third in the league last season are looking to go two places better this time round and have a squad they think can do it. Certainly their confidence will be high after a fine opening day win at Holy Isle, who themselves are looking to be up there at the end of the season, after securing some quality signings and taking advantage of Morawelon disbanding. It looked to be going well for the hosts when a precise pass played through saw Luke Miles beat the offside trap and the keeper. It was just the start manager Scott Marsden wanted with several Players missing. But his joy was cut short five minutes before the break as Kieran Thomas took full advantage of a defensive slip to net the equalizer. Spurred on the Bay added a second just on the hour mark when keeper Murphy `lost’ a corner kick and Ricky Jones poked it home. With the Isle totally committed to pulling it back they were caught out with four minutes remaining, and Dylan Evans made it safe with the third. Obviously the Bay were pleased with the three points but Holy Isle manager Scott Marsden was not downbeat and said, “... it was a game we could and should have won, but didn’t. Well done to the Bay, but we look forward to the rest of the season and hope we can show the real Holy Isle every week.”

Gaerwen Reserves travelled to Trearddur Bay United reserves and in a close first half enjoyed plenty of possession though conceding a goal when Dave Webb beat the offside trap to run through and beat the keeper. They were caught cold in the second half when a fine run down the left ended with Matt Jones tucking away the cross into the box. Luck deserted the visitors when, on two occasions, players on the goal line were `seen to have handled’ and were dismissed before Dewi Thomas drilled each of the penalties home. Garwen reserves never gave in and fully deserved the goal scored by Joshua Jones following a free kick awarded just outside the box.
