PENTRAETH BAG SEVEN AND LLANGOED TOP GROUP A BWLCH CARBOOT CUP

SATURDAY 7th of November 2015

The previous week, both, Llanfairpwll Res and Maes y Bryn were involved in the BWLCH Car Boot Cup, whilst, KonX Wales Anglesey Football League leaders, Bro Goronwy were extending their lead with three points from the visit of Pentraeth Reserves. So second placed Llanfairpwll’ and third placed Maes y Bryn were eager to get back to league games to pick-up points and stop the leaders distancing them even further.
With the two clashing in the Match of the Day, both were desperate for a win................. but the winner turned out to be the weather with the match official declaring the field unplayable.
So a victory at Valley would give Bro Goronwy a thirteen point lead over Llanfairpwll and Maes y Bryn. The two title rivals would be quick to point out that they have games in hand, Llanfair four, and Maes two, but ,Bro would be just as quick to say points in the bag are what count. Paul Scholes reports ...............

Llanfairfechan Reserves travelled to Pentraeth Reserves and were unlucky to find their first team were without a game and were able to strengthen their squad. The visitors held their own until the twenty second minute when Ryan Woos put the hosts ahead, and they doubled their lead with a Joel Rooijakkers strike [31]. It was quickly followed with a goal from club top scorer Corig McGonigle [36], and Pentraeth led 3-0 at the break,
The second period saw Ryan Woods notch his second[70] and Taylor Jones also grabbed a brace [63,75] and the final set-back was the visitors conceded an own goal.

In group A of the Bwlch Carboot cup, Llangoed took over the top spot from Bro Goronwy following their victory at Bodorgan where Caerwyn Williams grabbed a hat-trick. The visitors took an eleventh minute lead through Williams, but if they thought the floodgates would open they were totally wrong as Bodorgan got to grips with the game and the half-time break came with the single goal separating the two.
The hosts were again caught cold from the re-start, when Henry Romeo raced on to a through ball to increase their lead [47], and three minutes later Caerwyn Williams notched his second with a fine volley. Now Bod’ were up against it and Llangoed hit three in the space of six minutes, Mathew Owen with a low shot [70] Kieran Owen [75] and Caerwyn Williams completing his hat-trick. Bodorgan never gave up and were rewarded with a late goal from Martin Rowland’s.

BRO AWAY WIN MAKES IT LUCKY 13 CLEAR AT THE TOP

An excellent 3-0 tricky away win at Valley sent Bro Goronwy further clear of closest rivals .....
With the first 3 months of the season having been kind on the weather front Bro's first match of November would be as much of a test of the weather and pitch conditions as much as a tricky test away at the current Anglesey League champions.
Knowing that the closest league rivals LlanfairPG and Maes Y Bryn's game had been cancelled it was a further chance for Bro to extend their lead at the top of the table and heap all the pressure on their chasers.
Bro intelligently controlled the match from the 1st to the last whistle and didn't look uncomfortable at any stage.
Playing against the conditions didn't deter the Moelfre outfit as they created all the chances of the half and keeper Dean Corbett didn't have to worry about any onslaught with the wind conditions in favour of the home side.
Andy Williams and Sam Roberts up front looked lively from the off and it was only a Justin Hughes near post save that prevented Williams gaining the opener.
Chris Hough sailed a ball over into Williams path but he could only send his shot straight down Hughes' throat and into his grasp.
Borja Lorenzo caught a shot well with Athletic's only strike but Corbett was on his toes to safely push away from danger.
Williams and Roberts combined for the opener after 16 minutes to put the away side in the lead, the latter drilling a set up into Williams path but still with a lot to do to get past the chasing defenders he powered through the challenges to find a shot past the gloves man.
Roberts was off target connecting onto a Adam Henderson floated pass before Bro made it 2-0.
Breaking at pace up field Sam Roberts worried the defence enough to create panic and cause full back Ryan Hall to turn the ball past his own stricken keeper.
Valley had a couple of minutes spell with a series of consecutive corner pieces but Bro's back line held firm not to let the hosts back into the game.
The game should have been all but put to bed minutes before the break but Roberts squandered a golden chance from the penalty spot, Williams pace in the area could only be stopped by a reckless hack giving official Heinz Broering no choice but to point to the spot.
Roberts stepping up but seemingly kicking more of the turf than the ball to send a weak strike into the arms of the static keeper.
Half-Time 0-2.
Having done all the hard work in the 1st period Bro didn't have to chase the game in the 2nd period and controlled possession with ease keeping Valley at arms length whilst still creating chances on goal.
Chris Hough lacked power and accuracy in his lengthy effort before Adam Henderson made it 3-0, Williams again causing havoc, this time down the right flank, squaring into the space for the rushing youngster to smash the ball into the roof of the net.
Henderson again was at the centre of the action, rising gracefully to send his header goal bound only for the defender to heroically clear off the line to leave captain Dylan Jones a simple finish from 2 yards out but the defender couldn't control his shot and slid his effort off target.
Andy Williams had to leave the field of play with a slight injury to leave Bro with only 10 men but they still looked dangerous in attack, Jac Thomas' youthful pace worrying the defence and Ryan Jones unlucky to see his shot blocked in the dying minutes.
The win now leaves Goronwy 13 points clear in the standings and with only 3 league matches left for them to play the pressure will now be all on the closest challengers, LlanfairPG and Maes Y Bryn.
Realistically Llanfair have the best hope of catching the current leaders, but with 4 games behind they could well have to go all the way to the end of the season gaining maximum points from every remaining game.
Full-Time 0-3.
