BRO INCREASE LEAD AT TOP

BUT LLANGOED & DISTRICT DERAIL VALLEY MOMENTUM

SATURDAY 31st of October 2015

With both, Llanfairpwll Res and Maes y Bryn being involved in the BWLCH Car Boot Cup, games being played, KonX Wales Anglesey Football League leaders Bro Goronwy were looking to further themselves from their rivals by taking all three points from the visit of Pentraeth Reserves, whilst fourth placed Valley - after last week excellent victory over Maes y Bryn, travelled to Llangoed, knowing a victory was essential if they are to keep up with the leading pack.

Pentraeth shook the leaders by taking a seventeenth minute lead as Paul Scholes covers fully in his report below.

Valley had no such luck as hosts, Llangoed and District took an early lead, and not for the first time this season it was the `trusty’ Wayne Thomas who set them on their way, and when Michelle Jones added a second Valley struggled to get in the game. But slowly they did and enjoyed their best spell before the break though they failed to pull one back [h/t 2 – 0]
With Valley now beginning to look dangerous, Llangoed played their `trump card’ with the introduction of Henry Romeo from the bench. He justified the managers faith in him with an outstanding performance as well as grabbing a goal to make it 3-0 that left Valley cold, and Wayne Thomas put the icing on the cake with a powerful drive from some twenty five Yards that rounded off a deserved win by four goals without reply.

Bro prevented any nightmare dropped points as a 2-1 derby treat was secured from Andy Williams leveller & a Sam Roberts winner ...

Racking up the league points in recent weeks Bro Goronwy knew that nothing but another 3 to add to their total would be good enough as their nearest rivals weren't in league action therefore a win would leave the Moelfre men ten clear at the top and sitting back putting pressure on their rivals to win their games in hand.
It was not to be a Halloween horror show but Pentraeth certainly came away from the match with heads held high as they pushed the hosts close all the way to the end.
A pacey youthful looking away side was helped on its way with some well placed experience down their spine, Gary Cox in goal difficult to beat, defenders Tim Davies and Owain Roberts fully committed and Andy Warrop upfront always giving them a chance.
Bro dominated possession throughout the game but at times struggled to produce the final creativity to unlock the defence but kept pursuing and eventually gaining the deserved win.
Goalscoring chances were at a premium but it was to be the visitors that were gifted a 17th minute lead, a misunderstanding between centre half Dylan Jones, heading the ball back goal wards, and gloves man Gareth Owen , not anticipating the deft headed back pass, resulting in a simple tap into the empty net for lively striker Andy Warrop.
An immediate reply was close coming, Andy Williams not connecting close in and then strike partner Jac Thomas poking off target.
The pair were to combine in creating the leveller, a Chris Hough long throw causing the damage to give Thomas a far past volley that Cox thwarted with a superb flying save but couldn't prevent Williams turning in the rebound from a tight angle.
It remained tight up to the interval but Pentraeth should really have gone into the changing rooms ahead, Kane Roberts showing composure in the box bringing the ball under control but Rhys Jones not doing likewise, blasting into the side netting with only Owen to beat.
Half-time 1-1.
It was much of the same after the restart, Bro pushing but not finding the killer pass to dissect the visiting rearguard and then possibly the change to a back 3 on the hour mark, with Andy Swindells coming into the middle of the pitch, eventually swinging the result.
Williams was cute with a chip from the by line that cleared the keeper but no one was on the end to finish it off before Cox had to produce a wonderful double save.
Dylan Jones' towering presence enough to win the far post header to leave the keeper scrambling down low only to push the ball out into Rui Da Silva's path but the promising youngster couldn't keep his feet and slipped a shot goal wards that Cox again palmed around the post.
It was then to be action at both ends in a minute, Callum Thomas bearing down on goal from wide but again Gary Cox pulling off the heroics and then a quick break found Joel Rooijakkers out wide in space and he fired a cross to the far post where Andy Warrop could only side foot over from close under the bar.
A burst of pace from Bro's 16 year old striker Jac Thomas on 79th minutes was enough to create the winner, lighting the fuel burners and jet setting towards the defence before being ruefully taken to the ground in the penalty area by any of the 3 chasing defenders.
Sam Roberts keeping his cool to send the keeper the wrong way and bury the resulting penalty confidently into the net for 2-1 to the Bro.
Roberts' goal bound shot was crucially blocked as Goronwy looked to put the game to bed but it remained close up to the final whistle, Kane Roberts having the final chance to pull the match level.
Teeing up an excellent placed free kick not far outside the box but unable to keep the ball the correct side of the cross bar.
The win puts Bro Goronwy 10 points clear at the top to nearest challengers LlanfairPG reserves but with Llan having 3 games in hand it is all still very tight to call.
Full-time 2-1.
