BODORGAN SNATCH LATE WINNER AND VALLEY GO THROUGH

Kon-x Wales Anglesey Football League
Saturday 26th of NOVEMBER 2016
Teams in the Kon-x Wales Anglesey League turned their attention to the HUWS GRAY MEGAN CUP and despite the Sunny but freeing cold weather, at each of the games it was `Raining’. It was raining goals, twenty two in the three ties played. High flying Llangoed, having already been knocked out of one cup were never in any danger at Pentraeth and enjoyed a grEIGHT win, whilst at Bodorgan it was a case of `one over the eight’ as they edged home by the odd goal in a NINE goal thriller with Bethesda Res. By comparison the Valley and Mynydd LLandegai game was `defensive’ – with just five goals

Pentraeth Res., 0 v 8 Llangoed & District
The match started and finished with Llangoed on the front foot. Though Pentraeth' kicked off, Llangoed quickly won possession and went on the attack with Mathew Owen going close from the edge of the area.
It took 16 minutes for Llangoed to break the deadlock, neat inter play in mid-field saw the ball reach Craig Jones who in turn played Carwyn Williams through to net in style.
On 21 minutes it was two, Mathew Owen again causing havoc down the left flank cutting inside and laying a pass back to the edge of the area for Wayne Thomas to power home almost taking gloves man Barry Walker into the net with the ball.
Some ten minutes later Jamie Roberts played a clever pass out to the right flank and Carwyn Williams raced to the bye line and floated over a pinpoint cross to allow Craig Jones to guide his header into the top corner with the minimum of movement required and he doubled his tally when a fine stop by keeper, Walker ended with the ball loose in the box his alertness allowed him to neatly lob it over the stranded stopper[40].
Half time 0-4
In the second half, the Llangoed team completely switched off but Pentraeth were unable to take any advantage, and on 61 minutes it was `normal service resumed’, Carwyn Williams netting his second of the game at the far post. Not to be outdone by his brother, Wayne Thomas stuck his second calmly curling the ball inside the far post [68]. Carwyn Williams completed his hat trick on 79 minutes when he picked up a through ball and hammered the ball into the roof of the net from 20 yards, and goal number eight fell to Charlie McKenna heading home a beautifully flighted cross

Bodorgan Juniors 5 v 4 Bethesda Res.
This was a nail-biting nine goal thriller with one side thinking they had done enough, only for the other to give them a rude awakening as the score-line fluctuated with the passing minutes ticking by. Both teams are to be congratulated for playing their part in a very exciting tie with no lack of quality.
Bodorgan played neat football in the first quarter hour but lacked the finish touch and it was the Bethesda youngsters who struck the first blow. A free-kick was swung over to the far post where Dyfan Roberts was on hand to steer it home [25[. Two minutes later the hosts levelled, a strong run by Patterson ended with his fierce shot deflecting off team-Allaway in to the net. This lifted the juniors, who took the lead when Cameron Owen struck an unstoppable free kick from 35 yards,
Half Time 2v1.
The juniors started the second half chasing a goal but Bethesda battled back and Adrian Roberts struck a cross shot to level matters. The juniors went searching for a `winner’ and Steven Hughes provided a killer pass to put Patterson through and he duly netted ’[65], and five minutes later the hosts led 4v2 when Steven Hughes calmly stroked the ball home [70]. This could and should have been the point where the visitors collapsed and went on to concede a few more, but not this time.
Showing determination – missing in recent games, and a fair amount of skill, Bethesda did not give up and immediately went up field and scored through Dylan Griffith [4v3]. The hosts tried to stretch their lead rather than consolidating it and Bethesda caught them on the break with Jac Roberts scoring an equalizer [4v4] and some fifteen minutes remaining.. Now it was ` game on’ as both teams tried to gain the winner, though time was fast running out and it looked like extra time. But with less than three minutes remaining, the classy Dylan Bee, who had been outstanding all afternoon hit the winner................and what a winner, For a change, Bee wasn’t looking to thread the ball through to a team-mate, but instead let fly from 46 yards out and the ball thundered into the net. 5v4.

After match comments
Robin Griffiths[ Bodorgan] said, .“... it was a great cup tie with a very young Bethesda side fully playing their part . The youngsters giving everything to the end. Tomos Eames in particular shone for the Juniors Jason Owen and Cameron Owen starred but Dylan Bee's super strike won the day!”

Dennis Bryant, League Chairman, said “... a truly great game, excitement, quality, determination, and a winner that would be worthy of TV’s MOTD. I had intended taking in the second half at another of our games-as I normally do, but could not tear myself away from this CLASSIC from two teams, neither of whom can be classed as title contenders”

Outsiders view Around a month ago, the league’s `Top Two’, Llangoed and Holyhead received all the plaudits for their performance in the 4 v 4 draw , and League Chairman, Dennis Bryant commented at the time .... “it’s one of the best games I’ve seen on the Island, two excellent teams and well officiated by Stephen Jones, Bethesda and a credit, not just to football on Anglesey but to football in North Wales”. On Saturday he was repeating those same words as he watched the `bottom two’ put on an even more thrilling game. Bethesda Res., a team made up of sixteen year olds have suffered some `heavy’ defeats lately as their heads dropped on conceding two or three goals. But on Saturday, at Bodorgan, after taking the lead they showed their spirit and ability when they fought back from 4 v 2 down to draw level, only to lose to an amazing strike with three minutes remaining. Let’s hope[e they can take something from this game to spur them on during the rest of the season.
Valley 4 v 1 Mynydd LLandegai Res
This game didn’t produce quite the same amount of goals and as half-time arrived without a goal it never seemed likely to with two well matched sides H/T 0 v 0
But that changed in the second half with the visitors losing a player through injury and with no further subs’ available had to continue with ten men. It lifted the hosts who took full advantage and Mark Wilson gave them the lead with a neat finish, and not long after Ryan Heywood doubled the score.
From a tight competitive first half, Valley now had control using the additional player to full advantage and Ashley Hughes weighed in with a brace, tucking away a cross and hitting a long range power shot.
Mynydd never gave up the fight and were rewarded with a consolation goal from Alex Griffiths
The Bryngwran v Holyhead tie was postponed.
