CEMAES BAY 6 V GAERWEN RESERVES 0
Report coutesy of Mr Alan Gray

Cemaes, already in three semi-finals – and with a home draw in the quarter-final of the NWCFA Junior Cup, entertained Gaerwen Reserves in their first one, the prestidious KonX Wales Dargie Cup. This is `the big one’, and they went into the tie, having lost at this stage of the competition last season, to eventual winners Llangefni res, knowing that they faced a potential banana skin vs a team who have caused a few teams this season problems.

Gaerwen won the toss and elected to kick off. The game started with Gaerwen shooting at goal from kick off only for Arron Jones to collect. There were a couple of chances for either teams and to be fair Gaerwen had most of the possession as Cemaes couldn't string two passes together. Against the run of play some neat play by Dan Jones put in Huw Torr who teed up Ryan Folksman to shoot home for his first for the club. Gaerwen in all honesty didn't deserve to be 1-0 down at this stage of the game and continued to play well and have a number of chances. The second half started and the message from the management team was not to try and force it but to just play football and that's certainly what they did. On came super sub and the fans favourite Sion Wyn Griffiths and almost immediately made his mark as he teed up Bay talisman Steve Mason who ended his goal drought. Sion Wyn Griffiths then teed up Mason again for Cemaes third and his second as he flicked on from Keenan Downeys ball in. On came Tam Morton who immediately showed everyone what he was capable of with a very calm and composed finish round the keeper. Cemaes continued to pressure with wave after wave of attack, and added their fifth when Huw Torr headed home from a Shaun Pritchard cross (if he didn't have his haircut Saturday morning that would have gone wide). Cemaes then added their 6th, the final of the game and Masons third with a very good top corner strike.

So Cemaes are through to the final which will be played at the home of Bangor City F.C, the Book People stadium, on Friday the 27th of March, kick-off 7pm. It is a Cup Final that every season is played in front of a very large crowd, and has needed extra-time and a penalty shoot-out in three of the last four to decide the winners. So keep the date free, order your tickets and enjoy another Friday night under lights.

After the ,match the management of Cemaes were quick to give to congratulations all at valley athletic who will be their opponents in the final and to also express that credit must also be given to Gaerwen, who, despite having `lost’ four players called up for first team duty on the morning, for large parts of the game really did give Cemaes a scare. A big thanks and congrats to all the players, the committee and the fans from the management team.
