IPP TROPHY ROUND 1

CEMAES BAY 3 V 0 TREARDDUR BAY UTD RES.

FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL [12/9/14]

Another Friday night, another decent crowd and another entertaining game as Cemaes Bay and visitors Trearddur Bay Utd. Res., clashed in this round one tie in the IPP Trophy. Cemaes elected to play against the `slope’ in the first half and were soon showing their intentions as Steve Mason struck a free-kick from outside the box that flew just wide, and it was Mason again producing a save from the visiting keeper. Trearddur competed well – and needed to against a Cemaes side containing some very good youngsters ably enhanced by one or two `old heads’. He youngsters were full of running and enthusiasm and it was a surprise to see the half-time drinks being served without a goal scored by either side.

The second half proved to be different, and after ten minutes the dead-lock was broken. The `evergreen’ Steve Mason worked his way clear into the box only to be brought down by the `last man’ – in the eyes of the home supporters. But the match official saw it differently and pointed to the spot, but kept the red card in his pocket. Youngster, Sion Pritchard, calmly stepped up to bury the spot-kick and set the hosts on their way...........or so they hoped. But despite some fine play, and Huw Torr catching the eye, Trearddur stuck to their task and the penalty was the only thing separating the two sides as the game entered the last ten minutes. The hosts were awarded a corner and as the ball was swung over the head of Kieran Thomas rose highest to head home and double the advantage. The visitors had it all to do now and throw caution to the wind as they set about pulling it around. But with five minutes remaining Steve Mason let fly with a powerful drive that the keeper did well to stop but the ball fell to Huw Torr who clinically despatched into the back of the net. It was fitting that Torr who had a tremendous match should score the final goal
