HUWS GRAY MEGAN CUP FINAL

Holyhead Town 1 v 0 Llangoed & Distrkict

On Friday night, the two heavyweights of the Kon-x Wales Anglesey League clashed again in the final of the Huws Gray Megan Cup at the Oval Holyhead. This Final proved to be much more even and chances were at a minimum with two well drilled defences in control for most of the game, though the neutrals in the crowd would have thought Llangoed unlucky not to be awarded a penalty, certainly there was a big shout from the players as the shot cannoned off the defender, but match official Mr Dewi Morris of Llanfairfechan was well positioned and gestured that it hit the midriff . Llangoed did look to have one good chance when Llion Roberts was played through for a run on goal, but he was aware that Mike Davies was in hot pursuit behind him and in trying to ensure he wouldn’t be caught he pushed the ball a little too far ahead of himself and the keeper was quickly out to snatch the ball away from him the chance was gone.
The game was evenly contested and it was clear thatgoals were going to be scarc, but mid way through the first half with a goal seeming unlikely the deadlock was broken with Holyhead taking the lead and as you probably guessed it was from the boot of prolific striker Tom Hadley. Having collected the ball he cut inside and from around the D he steered the ball past the keeper for a well taken goal.

Whereas the first half had been even – except for the goal, the second half, especially late on proved more difficult for both sides as the field began to cut up a bit after the heavy overnight rain but it was just shaded by the Harbour men and they deserved the win.

It was not surprising that the Man of the Match award went to a defender, Mike Davies of Holyhead taking the honour.
