LATE LUKE FLEMING GOAL PUT TOWN TOP

IN SEVEN GOAL THRILLER WITH VALLEY & THREE LEFT TO PLAY

Almost every season, for the last ten years or more the Kon-x Wales Anglesey League has a had a nail biting finish where two sides battle it out with one ending as Champions, leaving the other as runners-up. It’s that time of the season now for Llangoed & District and Holyhead Town, where, for two teams the finishing line is in sight and they need to watch out for any Banana skins that could cause them to slip –up. For Holyhead that `slip looked like it was happening last Tuesday in their `final;’ game in hand on the leaders.

With the games coming fast and thick for Holyhead Town as they try to prepare for cup finals with important league fixtures needing to be won in between. There’s no rest for Brodie’s boys, and on Tuesday night three points were essential from the visit of Valley if Town are to snatch the league title from under the noses of Llangoed who have led all season.

So with the new railings in place around the pitch, the sun shining, a bumper crowd the stage was set for a local Derby of major importance and an anticipated tight game with the visitors out to dent their hosts title hopes

The game started very even with chances at both ends but in 17th minute Barry Lavelle met a cross from skipper Tom Roberts and Town were ahead 1-0 Unperturbed, Valley set about pulling it back and Ricky Lavelle conceded a penalty, up steps Mike Williams who tucked away into the top corner 1-1
With three minutes to the break Barry Lavelle finds the top corner with a sweet goal.. .....unfortunately in his own net and its 2-1 Valley. But just on the stroke of half-time
Captain Marvel, Tom Roberts curls a 35yard free kick into the top corner 2-2

HT 2-2

Back come Valley and Mike Williams breaks away only to be taken down by Mike Davies, another penalty up steps Williams again and it’s the same result as he confide3ntly tucks it away and Valley ,lead 2-3 [63,mins] ‘Is the title slipping away? Maybe not, Town get a break when Rickie Lavelle pumps a ball into the box from just over the half way line and after a few ducked heads the ball finds its way in the net 3-3
A draw is no use to the Harbour men and with eight minutes remaining manager Brodie plays his trump card sending on substitute Luke Fleming to net the winner for Town with a corner from Man of the match Tom Roberts. The cheers could no doubt be heard in Llangoed as Town hit top spot a point ahead of Llangoed. With three games left for both teams the crucial one will be Llangoed’s visit to Holyhead.

FT 4-3
Having seen his side concede three goals – 2 penalties and an own goal, Town Manager,Craig Brodie was relieved to see his boys hit four. He summed it up, when, after the game he said,”... tonight’s game was very close and we are at an important stage of the season, there can be no room for error now"
