TABLE TOPPERS TOPPLED

By McCann Dave

BY SECOND PLACED PENTRAETH

Pentraeth travelled to Holyhead for the top of the table clash against leaders Morawelon as the only side with a hundred percent record in the KonX Wales Anglesey football League, and with the host’s undefeated one record was going to be broken.
Pentraeth began well and took the lead when Liam Hogan floated over a free-kick and Tom Taylor out jumped everyone to power a perfect header into the top corner giving the keeper no chance what so ever. Though the visitors were still pressing and looking to add to their half-time lead, it was the leaders who scored to level matters. A Jordan Murphy free kick from the left found BARRY HAIGH who headed the ball into the left hand corner of the net with the keeper rooted to the spot. Now it was game on and if the locals were expecting the leaders to take over they were soon to be disappointed as Llion Williams swung the ball over into the box and rising head and shoulders above everyone was Tom Taylor who powerfully headed the ball down and in the bottom corner. Then when home keeper Nick Murphy struck a clearance that was picked up by Mark Williams, he beat one defender and as the defence seemed to open up in front of him so he accepted to the invitation to run on before drilling the ball past the keeper [3-1]. The leaders were stunned and their defence seemed to be at cross purposes as a ball played in to Taylor left him free but ignoring the chance of a fifth consecutive hat-trick he found Graham Jones with a neat lay off and Jones lashed a low shot into the het for number four. Taylor was involved again and played in Gareth Jones and with the home back four in total disarray Jones struck a low ground shot to the left of the keeper and into the corner of the net for number five.
Pentraeth are now just four points behind the leaders but with THREE games in hand, and have scored 23 goals in their last three games with Taylor hitting NINE.

Another pleasing aspect for Pentraeth was that their supporters were almost as many in numbers as the home supporters.

As worrying as the defeat for Morawelon was the injuries sustained to two of their most influential players that make them doubtful for next weeks defence of the NWCFA Junior Cup.
