TOWN's TERRIFIC TREBLE

By McCann Dave

AND STILL TWO MORE TO PLAY

Report with thanks to Nick Murphy

Friday night saw the climax to yet another exciting Kon-X Wales Anglesey League season with a bumper crowd converging on Millbank
For the title showdown, Holyhead v Llangoed and District. Most of them had come to cheer on the hosts, though there were quite a few `Ground Hoppers’ who once again had traveled to Anglesey to witness a Title conclusion.

Llangoed, knowing only a win would give them the Title, started the better side and a fierce shot by Charlie Mckenna was goal bound until keeper Murphy went full length to save. More pressure from the visitors resulted in a free-kick just on the edge of the box, but Llion Roberts shot just grazed the bar.

This was just the `wake-up call Town needed and Captain Tom Roberts sent a shot flying towards the net until custodian Rhys Owen manage to finger-tip it away.

Just on half time Town took the lead with a lucky break. Rickie Lavelle floated over a corner that was heading in the direction of Brother Barrie but Matty Roberts stepped in to clear only for the ball to end up in the back of his own net.

Half-time 1-0

Llangoed feeling a bit hard done by with the own goal were quick out of the starting blocks and pressed hard In the 60th minute, Llion Roberts was through with just the out rushing keeper to beat but to the home keepers relief he placed his shot just inches wide.

With Llangoed enjoying a good spell a cross fell to man of the match Leeroy Parry who hit the ball in to the bottom corner to double the lead much to the to the relief of the home crowd [65]

Now in control Holyhead started to dominate and on the 71st Minute a Tom Hadley top corner shot was well saved by Rhys Owen , but with fifteen minutes remaining keeper Owen stood no chance when Holyhead broke down the right and Barrie Lavelle played a neat one two with Matthew Thomas before placing his shot in the ball bottom corner.

Llangoed pushed everyone forward at this time knowing they needed four goals but the town defence which has been solid in recent weeks was again rock solid and kept out any chances.

After the game manager Craig Brodie praised Llangoed for winning the Dargie cup, Finalists in two others and making the league so competitive on what has been an exciting season for both teams

He went on to say that everyone recognized Town for their attacking approach with a strike force scoring goals for fun, that the defence were overlooked or taken for granted. But in the cup clashes and the Title decider a very good Llangoed side were unable to register a goal which just goes to show their worth.
