KON-X WALES ANGLESEY LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON 2013/14
BRIEF report of
Fixtures for Saturday 12th of APRIL 2014 ▼

Three teams were in `Seventh Heaven’ as it rained goals in the Kon X Wales Anglesey Football League, and with Leaders Llandegfan Antelope, contesting the William HILL Elias Cup Final, title hopefuls, Menai Bridge Tigers and Morawelon were both looking for maximum points.

The Bridge had the easier task – on paper, as they welcomed a Llanfairpwll Res., side who had conceded eight goals in their last two games, and so it proved to be with Tigers showing their bite, by hitting seven without reply. The game was a personal triumph for striker GARETH BARKER, who gave the visitors `what FOUR’, as he grabbed FOUR himself. His first, `bundled home’ [21], then a lob over the out coming keeper [49], followed by a header [54], and when the defence had given up trying to stop him legally - and pushed him to the floor, there was no way anyone else was going to take the resulting penalty it, as he got up to strike the spot kick home [68] . The others were scored by Danny Brookwell [40], Lance Williams [86] and David Baston [87]

Holy Isle’s winning run came to an end at Menai Bridge last Saturday - all be it to a ninety second minute header and this week they faced other title hopefuls Morawelon in what proved to be a classic local derby. With the Isle looking a pale shadow of their previous six week run, they went a goal down after just ten minutes as Sion Murphy gave the visitors the lead, and five minutes later Gary Jo’ Owen struck a second to set the Morras’ on their way.....or so it seemed. But Tom Hughes kept up his record of scoring in every game since his return and pulled one back before half time ][40].
Holy Isle manager, Scott Marsden either gave the team talk of his life during the break, or the drinks were served with a `pick-me-up’ because the hosts came out breathing fire, and within five minutes Gethin Rowlands equalized, and twelve minutes later he had completed his hat-trick and the Isle now led, by 4-2. This jolted the visitors back into life and it was end to end until, a controversial penalty award to Morawelon with twenty minutes remaining saw Gary Jo’ step-up to score from the spot and pull it back to 4-3. This signalled an all out attack on the host rear guard and it was just a matter of time before it cracked as they began to tire. Enter, quick fire, Asa Thomas with the equalizer[75], five minutes later he put them ahead with his second and five more minutes later he had completed a fifteen minute hat-trick to make it 6-4. With six minutes remaining Liam Patrick Williams made it seven, to leave the Moras’ in `seventh heaven’ and top of the League.
After the game, a breathless Holy Isle manager, Scott Marsden said, “ Wow , what a game! Credit to both teams. I’m proud of each one of my boys, despite the fact that our inexperience showed towards the end, but then Rome wasn’t built in a day , and the Morawelon comeback has to be one of the best I have ever seen.”

Another team in `seventh heaven’ was Llangoed & District who were much too good for a Newbwch’ team that has lost its way a bit since some good performances before Christmas. It took Iwan Williams just six minutes to put the visitors ahead, and just seventeen minutes for `hot-shot’ Corrig McGonigle to complete a hat-trick, and three minutes later to add his fourth. Mathew Owen made it six [38], and to add insult to injury the hosts conceded an own goal for the seventh.

Llangefni Town played host to Valley Athletic and put a stop to their run of victories with a goal towards the end of each half. Dylan Williams a minute before half time, and David Jones after seventy five.
