GRIFFITHS ACROBATIC OVERHEAD KICK KEEPS BRO TOP

IN YET ANOTHER `LATE', `LATE' SHOW.

BRO GORONWY 2 V 2 LLANFAIRPWLL RES.,
Taylorr Jones [19] Matty James [52, 88]
Liam Griffiths [90+2]

League leaders Bro Goronwy welcomed Llanfair Reserves to Cae Nerys,, and must have been confident to say the least, having beaten them only last week and the team yet to pick up even a point. So on `paper’ this was going to be three easy points!!
So it wasn’t a surprise to see Bro having most of the play and create chances that saw a Craig Richardson volley rebound off the upright, and captain Dylan Jones head inches over. Clearly it was only a matter of time before one of these chances would be converted, and with nineteen minutes on the clock they did just that to rtake the lead. A corner kick was not fully cleared and Taylor Jones slammed the loose ball home. Now it was all Bro and yet the visitors took he break at just one goal down, and knowing they were in for more of the same in the second half
Sure enough it took just seven minutes for the next goal to arrive.................... BUT it came from the visitors with Matty James curling his corner kick directly in to the net to make it all square. Llan' now came more into the game and their defence deserved praise for the fact the fact that they were level and as time ticked away they were looking to celebrate their first point of the season- if they could just hold on................................. BUT with just two minutes remaining they were looking at all three points when keeper Sweetser-Hawkes raced out of his goal area to head `clear’ a long ball down the middle. His header looked to have cleared the danger even though it fell to Llan scorer Matty James, but James from some thirty five yards out deliberately and delicately lobbed the ball back towards the empty goal with the keeper racing desperately back to stop it entering the net..... but in vain. It was a classy goal and worthy of being a winner and with the ninety minutes up surely that’s what it was!!!
The home supporters though, never leave early knowing that their team have made a habit of scoring late late goals, and amazingly they did it again..... and if Matty James lob was worthy of being the `winner’ then Liam Griffiths point saving leveller was equally as worthy. From a long throw the ball was sailing towards Griffiths, but with his back to goal and defenders behind him there was no danger, even if he did controll it and tried to turn......
but he had other ideas and acrobatically connected to send a majestically executed overhead bicycle kick to send the ball soaring into the back of the net and maintain Bro’s undefeated league record intact and keep them at the top of the table.

After game comments were mostly about the quality of the last two goals ,though manager Paul Scholes was quick to recognise and congratulate Llanfairpwll on “ ... their none stop work rate all over the pitch justified their point” and “... they look to improve game by game".

Outsiders view:
Llanfairpwll manager, Mark Jones, is to be congratulated, taking over two weeks into the season with most players already tied up to clubs and suffering a heavy first game defeat is no ideal start but he and his squad have stuck to it, and are improving with each game played. They will no doubt go into next week’s Dargie Cup tie at Gaerwen with renewed confidence.
