The second week in January saw what should have been the concluding games in the BWLCH Car-boot Cup but for postponements. But today’s results saw Holyhead Town book their place whilst their opponents in the Final looks like being Llangoed or Mynydd Llandegai - who with a game in hand could still pip Llangoed on goal difference.

Holyhead Town 4 v 1 Valley

Holyhead Town are through to the Final of the BWLCH Car-boot Cup following their defeat of valley who cannot now pass their points tally and Bryngwran bulls who could have matched them lost at Pentraeth so it was a good day all round for Town.
Whilst the score-line looks like it was `easy’ for the leaders, that was far from being the case. Half time arrived goal-less and it wasn’t until mid way through the second half that the dead-lock was broken Kurt Harris was pulled down and in the box and Town awarded a penalty. Up steps Tom Hadley....., the keeper goes full length to parry his spot kick, but Tom didn’t hesitate as he reacted quickest to tuck away the rebound. Then in the seventy fifth minute Matty Thomas sent over a cross that Luke Pleming tucked away and the same player then rounded two men to crack the ball into the roof of the net. Valley could be excused for thinking how have they scored three as they continued to compete and press. Then on 89 minutes they got some deserved consolation when Manager Mike Williams donning a shirt for the first time this season showed how it should be done when he headed home a right wing cross to crown his debut. But deep in injury time Pleming turned provider to allow Mark Bates to round the keeper [4 v 1]

after match comment

NICK MURPHY Holyhead was full of praise for Valley and said
the score-line does no justice what so ever to Valley It was never that comfortable

Bodorgan juniors 0 v 3 Llangoed and District Llion Roberts [2], Jamie Roberts
with thanks to Llangoed followed by report thanks to Bodorgan

With just one game remaining after today’s visit to Bodorgan juniors , Llangoed knew a win would see them get 1 foot into the final.
The game started with both teams trying to impose themselves but neither team able to do so, but on 18 minutes the deadlock was broken in some style and from the unlikely of sources Jamie Lee Roberts smashing the ball home from 25 yards.
On 22 minutes it was 2-0 with Llion Roberts picking up a lovely through ball from Craig Jones and finishing low into the bottom corner with his left foot.
It could and should have been 3-0 when Craig Jones found the bottom corner but turned to see the linesman’s flag raised to rule it out keeping the score line at 2-0.
Jamie Roberts again struck a drive from some 30 yards but this time thundered against the upright. Craig Jones found the back of the net again, only to turn and see the flag raised once again to rule out the effort. h/t 2-0.
The 2nd half began the same way with Llangoed pushing on and Craig Jones again played a lovely through ball to Llion Roberts who rounded the keeper and walk the ball in to the empty net but once again the flag was raised and the effort disallowed.
Two goal Ll;ion then turned provider rounding the Bodorgan defence and playing a ball back to Jamie lee Patterson but the ball was a yard too far in front of the striker to score on his debut.
The goal to finish the game off was shortly going to come sooner rather than later and so it did with Llion running through onto a lovely ball from Dylan Williams beating Mitchell Jones in a one on one race to slam the ball home making the final score 3-0.
Llion Jones picking up the man of the match award for a scintillating display in a very awkward game.

Report by Bodorgan:-

Bodorgan entertained the league leaders today in the Car Boot Cup. The home team have shown some improvement in their play lately but this form is not expressed in recent results. Llangoed had a large following of supporters in tow as they began playing with the wind at their tails towards the cob end.
On the balance of play the first half belonged to Llangoed although Bodorgan did not make it easy for them and probably had just as many goal opportunities. Llangoed converted their first goal on 18 minutes when Jamie Roberts latched onto a wild clearance from the touch line and the ball was kicked in field directly to Roberts who found himself unmarked and 22 yards out. He then hit a thunderous strike at goal which took a wicked bounce off the hard surface and past the outstretch Bodorgan keeper. Really the ball had ‘goal’ written on it as soon as it left his boot.
This sparked Bodorgan into life and they pressed Llangoed for an equaliser forcing a few corners and strikes at the Llangoed goal. This was all dealt with as the Llangoed defence held firm. On 22 minutes Llangoed broke onto the Bodorgan defence who found themselves short on numbers after a failed attack. Young Llion Roberts found himself clear on goal. He cut inside and coolly slotted a nicely placed shot into the right corner of the Bodorgan goal. His pace and movement continued to torment the Bodorgan throughout the game, continuously skirting on the edge looking to latch onto through balls.
As half time approached Bodorgan were fortunate to not concede a third as a shot hit the woodwork and the rebound was slotted in only for the scorer to be found offside by the officials. This caused some debate after the half time whistle.
After the interval the home team began the second half well and took a real strangle hold on the game. They played some really neat football for 20 minutes and we unlucky not to capitalise on their dominance. It took Llangoed some time to get a grip on play again. When they did gain some parity they were always dangerous on the break. Probably the key moment in the second half was when Bodorgan appeared to have forced the ball over the Llangoed goal line. The outstretched Rhys Owen in the Llangoed goal finally gathered the ball.
Over all the game was fairly even and a good contest, Bodorgan continued to press for a goal but this was not to be. The game ended with Llangoed scoring their last on 88 minutes when the dangerous Llion Roberts finally broke the Bodorgan defence running onto a well-timed pass and passing the ball into the Bodorgan net. This score put an end to any chance of the home team finding a way back. Llangoed took the points and both teams are looking forward to meeting each other again soon in the Megan Cup.
