LLANFAIRPWLL and LLANGOED FAIL AT ROUND 3

OF THE NWCFA JUNIOR CUP

Llanfairpwll Reserves played host to a strong Mynydd Llandegai side who must be considered one of the favourites to lift the trophy. It took Paul De Waart just twelve minutes to open the scoring but Llanfair were in no mood to sit back and the game developed into a contest and half-time arrived with 1-0 score-line. Carl Thredgill increased the lead [53] and a third three minutes later by Ian Burgess put Mynydd firmly in the driving seat and it was no surprise when Ian Owen made it four [69] and Thredgill struck his second, and the fifth [74, to dump Llanfair out.

Llangoed & District also suffered a similar fate at the hands of CPD Cerrigyrudion , but only after taking the tie into extra-time. Llangoed & District had raced into am two goal lead, both struck by Dave Flynn [15,20], but Llion Jones responded with a strike from the edge of the box three minutes before half-time. A Dafydd Beattie header levelled matters [51] and Cerrig’ took the lead for the first time in the game on the hour when Tom Parry toe poked home to make 2-3. The hosts fought back and with just four minutes remaining Craig Jones made it 3-3 and so to extra-time. There was no joy for LLan’ in the extra period as Tom Parry struck his second [118] which proved the winner.
