LLANGOED BATTLE FOR THE WIN AS YOUNGSTERS SHINE!!!

As expected the game went ahead at Pentraeth on the 4th time of asking and as the first team game was postponed some first team faces where featuring.
Llangoed FC got off to an absolute flier when Matty Owen sent youngster Llion Roberts through and he was just too pacey for the home sides back line and as he pulled his foot back to let fly he was untidily bundled to the floor to grant Llangoed a 1st minute penalty which Craig Jones unnervingly despatched.
If you thought this was going to open the floodgates for Llangoed you where very wrong as Pentraeth buttoned down the hatches and made thing very very difficult for the title hopefuls.
Pentraeth could of found themselves level on the 18th minute with a goal mouth scramble eventually being saved by the feet of Rhys Wyn Owen.
Action swayed to the other side of the pitch and Llion Roberts rushed onto a through ball but seen his effort from 18 yards smash against the foot of the post.
Pentraeth then had another chance to pull the game level yet again some last ditch defending from Llangoed who scrambled the ball clear.
Llangoed then had another glorious opportunity to extend their lead when Mathew Roberts had what seemed to be an open goal at his mercy when the cross from Llion came in but he saw his header smash against the post too.
Dylan Williams had a rush of blood when the ball fell at his feet inside the box but leaning right back the usually calm and collective Williams smashed his shot high high above the bar.
Llangoed led at half time 1-0 but could find themselves maybe a little lucky to be leading.
As the 2nd half kicked off the performance wasn't really improving but Pentraeth where never really threatening to break through the back line of the visitors.
On 50 minutes a quick change of system from Llangoed and on 52 minutes when they where still adjusting to the new system Pentraeth finally got through the rear guard but Darren Edmunds sweeper behind everyone and took the ball off the strikers toes.
65 minutes in Llangoed where starting to find their feet in the game and began to take control looking more and more threatening with every attack Wayne Thomas and Llion Roberts running tirelessly chasing down every hopeful ball on 70 minutes a speculative overhead kick from Thomas produced a good save from Barry Walker.
With 75 minutes played Llangoed finally extended their lead when Matty Owen connected sweetly with an over head kick from edge of the box and after taking a slight deflection found its way into the far top corner of the goal.
2 soon became 3 when Llion Roberts capped off a really battling performance by curling an effort from the side of the box and placing it in an identical place where Matty Owens goal ended up.
This is how the game finished between the two sides Llangoed could consider themselves to be a bit fortunate to receive a 3-0 verdict on their performance but sometimes you have to win ugly to be successful and that's exactly what this was.
On a day when Llangoed had quite a few missing with it being bank holiday and with youngsters Llion Roberts and Dylan Williams shining with their performance amongst some of the older members of the squad putting in strong performances as well we take a lot of positives out of the game.
Man of the match Llion Roberts
