Cemaes lined up for this game looking to tighten up the battle at the top and knowing that every point is vital and also knew they would be in for a tough ride against a very well organized Llangoed team. With top scorer Steve Mason on the sidelines due to an ankle injury, Bay lined up with strikers Sion Wyn Griffiths and Ricky Jones. The game started and almost immediately winger Huw Torr raced through to see his strike go agonisingly wide. Both teams battled to take control in the midfield, and some great play by Keenan Downey spread the ball over to Huw Torr who in turn whipped in a great cross that was met by the head of Sion Wyn Griffiths and burried into the net for the opening goal. A great finish. Bang on half time and with match official Mr Derek Owen about to blow for half time, goalkeeper Dan Jones made an error that proved Costly as he spilled a cross and Mitchell Jones poked it in.

During the half-time break the manager hammered home the message to the Bay players that if they wanted it they were going to have to work hard for it against a tough to break down Llangoed team. 52 mins gone and Llangoed broke where the ball landed to Jamie Roberts who struck it well. Llangoed immediately doubled their goal advantage when some fine wing play saw the ball crossed and Charlie McKenna rose to head the ball firmly into the net.
Bay knew they were definitely up against it now and manager, Darren Thomas made a double substitution that paid off almost immediatly. Shaun Pritchard played in Chris Hughes whose shot struck the bar............. and in, As the Bay tightened the screw, they saw chances created but the ball going agonisingly close ,both Sion Wyn Griffiths and Steve Mason saw efforts slip just the wrong side of the upright An accidental incident occurred as Llangoed midfielder Callum Groves clashed with the boot of Huw Torr as he was running and suffered concussion and looked in some pain, WE AT CEMAES WOULD L:IKE TO WISH HIM WELL and a speedy recovery. So the final whistle, and it was 3-2 to Llangoed who wanted it more. A disappointing result in the last league game before break jn what has been a great 2014 for Cemaes

Next Saturday against Llangefni in the Megan cup.

OUTSIDERS VIEW

Third placed Cemaes Bay welcomed Llangoed and District who they played on the opening day returning with a single goal victory. The scorer that day was Sion wyn Griffiths and today it was Griffiths who opened the scoring to put the Bay ahead and the home spectators sat back waiting for more. There were more goals to come but not until two minutes from the break and then it was not a home goal but an equalizer scored by Mitchell Jones [43] A cross from the left was swung in that the keeper went up for, and seemed to have averted the danger but as he landed the ball fell loose and Jones poked it home. The second period began with the visitors probing and they were rewarded within four minutes of the restart thanks to a Jamie Roberts strike that was more or less a repeat of the first. This time it was a corner kick floated into the box that the keeper went up for but lost his grip of it and Roberts was there to force it home. There was worse to follow for Cemaes when Mathew Owen sent a long throw towards the home penalty box and Charlie McKenna was on it in a flash to make it three and give the visitors more breathing space [61] it was a `wake-up’ call for Cemaes who realised they had a battle on their hands to get one point let alone three. But despite the loss of influential play maker Callum Groves with some twenty minutes remaining and all their substitutes used, Llangoed held firm after Steve Mason pulled one back with twelve minutes remaining which made for a nail biting finish but Llangoed’s ten were not going to be denied their moment of glory and held on or a Valuable victory.
