AS TIGERS WIN TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH

ROUND-UP: SATURDAY 17rh of MayThe clash of the `Big Two’ at Morawelon on Saturday was seen as the title `decider’, with visitors Menai Bridge arriving with 41 points for their final game, whilst Morawelon already had 42 points and another game to play after this one. So this was the one to win rendering their final game at Aberffraw as `meaningless’. Having scored seventeen goals in their last three games [all away]they were in confident mood and this had filtered down to their supporters who turned out in numbers to see their team `rewarded with the league championship’. But they couldn’t have anticipated Tigers keeper, Lee Moore turning in an extraordinary performance, or that their strike power would fire their first league blank of the season. But Moore was magnificent and denied them time and time again, not that his defence in front of him had a bad game, they too were excellent and combined to shut out the `deadly Duo’. They both had their opportunity to find the net, but by that time they were two goals down. The pacey Andrew Barker showed everyone a clean pair of heels as he ran on to slip the ball past the out coming keeper for the opener. Mathew Lock curled in a classy second as the tigers roared ahead. Then came a deciding moment in the chase for the title. Morawelon awarded a penalty, up step Asa Thomas, only to see Keeper Lee Moore parry it away at full stretch, but the ball ran loose and a Tigers player slid in to clear but Ref Heinz Broering adjudged the ball to have hit the defenders arm and awarded another penalty. This time step forward the other half of the `deadly Duo’, Gary Jo Owen to take it, but keeper Lee saved again with another fine save. With ten mins to go Asa Thomas went in for a high ball with the keeper, and fell awkwardly, and an Ambulance was called as it was feared he had broken his ankle. After a `long break' [no pun intended] the game was restarted and the last ten minutes played out without change to the score. Tigers have now completed all their games with this double over Morawelon and have 44 points. Morawelon travel to Aberffraw next Saturday with 42 points knowing nothing less than a win will see them lift the title.

CEMAES CLAIM THIRD
Meanwhile tucked in behind the top two is Cemaes Bay two wins seeing them overtake Aberffraw. A two goal blast from Sion Wyn Griffiths last Wednesday was enough to give them a victory over Trearddur Bay by the odd goal in three. On Saturday, visitors Llanfairpwll were next to feel the Griffiths shooting power as he collected another double. Steve Hughes joined him with a double of his own to leave a 4-0 victory giving the 38 points and guaranteed third place despite Aberffraw having two games left.

LLANGEFNI PIP ABERFFRAW IN FI9VE GOAL THRILLER
berffraw visited Llangefni Town needing a win to maintain their quest for third place but found the host in good form. A Dave Jones strike gave them the lead [40] and Steve Jones made it 2-0 [75].Llion Jones grabbed what proved to be the `winner’ which was fitting as it mint at their end of season function the same evening he received the top scorer award. Beffro to their credit never gave in and pulled two goals back through Richard Roberts and a classy Andrew Bailey half volley.

HOLY ISLE SHOW HUNGER FOR POINTS
Holy Isle must have been wishing it was the start of the season, not the end with some excellent recent results. Taking the field with ten men – awaiting players from a hospital visit, saw manager Scott Marsden take to the field – patrolling mid-field, against Valley. They took an early lead with a Mathew Roberts lob; Eric Leach doubled it only for Valley to pull it back to 2-2. The second half saw a different Isle as they dominated, Gethin Rowlands putting them back in front ,Anthony Platt made it four, as Robert and Rowlands both netted a second, but valley were not finished and added a third for 6-3.

So next Saturday it’s all roads lead to Aberffraw !!!! Can Beffro end on a high and show they can beat the best, or will the Morawelon strike force see they end on a high.... HIGHEST OF ALL, AS CHAMPIONS
