MENAI BRIDGE MARCH ON BRIDGING THE GAP

BETWEEN THE LEADERS WITH A GOAL RUSH

If it's goals you want to see, then go along to Menai Bridge where the nets are always bulging. Eighteen goals in the last two home games sees Tigers bridge the gap on the leaders and strikers Lance Williams and Andrew Barker again amongst the goals. Williams netting his second successive hat-trick at the expense of visitors Llangefni Town Res., and Barker falling one short.
It was Andrew Barker who opened the scoring – last week it took him just five minutes but today he had to wait....... three minutes more. A long clearance by the home keeper found Barker who took it down with neat control, before running onto strike the ball home from the edge of the box [8]. Eight minutes later Barker increased the lead in similar fashion. A long ball from the keeper was well taken down by the teenager and in one swift move he lifted the ball over the keeper as he thought about coming out. Leading scorer Williams then got in on the act, cutting in from the edge of the box, a `step over’ lost the defender and he drilled the ball home [23]. Keith Owen made it four with a curling cross shot [28]. Llangefni Town then seemed to settle and the next goal did not arrive until later in the second half - the seventy third minute.... and it was well worth waiting for. A defensive clearance saw the ball drop towards Alex Jones who curled it into the top corner with some aplomb, At six nil, it was left to lance Williams to snatch his hat-trick, and courtesy of some good work by team-mates he did just that [83 and 87]. Having played a number of games less than the others the Tigers could well be looking to quietly sneak in on the leaders.
