SEE HOLY ISLE TAKE THE POINTS

Holy Isle 2 v 0 Llangoed and District
Holy Isle, still suffering a number of injuries, welcomed a Llangoed and District team that turned in some terrific performances last season, but were looking for their first goal at this early stage of the season. The hosts having lost their opening game at home were determined to do better this time round and were looking for goals from the off. They were quick in the challenge and moved the ball around when in possession and had the edge in the first half. They took an early lead – through the inform Luke Miles who anticipating a through ball he was on to it a flash and ran on to beat the keeper. The visitors, with some very good youngsters, missing last season’s leading scorer, were pressing, when able, but did not have the fire power to pull it back and they still trailed at the break.
The second period saw the visitors battling back as the Isle had to make two enforced substitutions following injuries and the players looked to adjust to the pace of the game. But the next substitution by Manager Scott Marsden was a `master stroke’. With Gethin Rowlands already on a yellow , he brought him off and sent on, available again, Barry Haigh, who almost immediately justified the decision when he latched on to the ball and struck a `twenty five yarder’ into the top corner to leave the keeper helpless, and wrap up the three points.
