NIGEL's TABLE TOPPERS NET NINE

WITH DEWI THOMAS GRABBING A HAT-TRICK

Llanfairpwll Reserves 1 v 9 Trearddur bay Utd., Res
This was Llan’s first game, with Manager Mark Jones having `taken over’ after the season had started and unable to have the benefit of `friendlies’ , as they entertained a talented Trearddur Bay Reserves outfit. It looked like it would be a difficult introduction to the Anglesey league for the hosts, with Bay the only team to score four goals in a game this season

Overnight rain, and on the day itself, coupled with a strong breeze made difficult conditions for both sides, but ideal for the sliding tackle - if timed right. Those that weren’t resulted in free-kicks, and one such award to the Bay, some twenty five yards out, saw Dewi Thomas – scorer of two penalties last week step up to take it. He duly placed the ball and sent a blistering drive into the top corner of the net . That strike signalled more goals to follow, and sure enough it wasn’t long before one did, but this time it fell to the hosts. A corner kick was floated over and tucked away by McQuarrie to make it all square at 1-1.

The visitors shrugged it off and with Captain Matt Jones `pulling the strings’, spreading accurate passes all over the park it was just a matter of time before it paid off. When it did it was Jones who made a telling run into the box only to be brought down for an obvious penalty, and an obvious choice of who to take it. Step forward Dewi Thomas to place his spot-kick wide of the keeper for his third penalty in his last two games. The goal deflated the hosts somewhat, but it certainly lifted the Bay who were now looking dangerous every time they had the ball, and Shaun Jones latched on to a partial clearance to dispatch the ball straight back into the net and Declan Jones on his debut headed home a corner to make it 4-1 at the break.
There was no way back for Llan when Mike Jones made it five, heading home another corner. Further goals from Mike William, Dan Connelly and Liam Mortimore added more misery for the hosts but the last goal fittingly sealed Dewi Thomas hat-trick.

After the match a delighted manager Nigel Chambers sportingly took time out to say.

I would like to say thank you to llanfair' football club. As a club they have gone though a tough period, losing players etc and inevitably almost pulling out off the league, which would have been such a shame because they have a good history and are considered a big club in North Wales football. They were given two weeks grace to produce a team for the Anglesey league and have done fantastically well to get the ball rolling again, I personally wish them good luck for the season and I know they will come good again",
