NWCFA JUNIOR CUP SEES ANGLESEY SIDES PROGRESS

and three more ties still to play

Saturday 1st November - NWCFA Junior Cup Round-up

APPOLOGIES FOR THE DELAY BUT BOTH TIMES I TRIED TO LOG THIS REPORT- OVER THE WEEK-END THE SITE OWNERS WERE CARRYING OUT MAINTENANCE.

In the NWCFA Junior Cup all the KWAFL teams ‘playing opposition from other leagues’ all won through to the 3rd Round. Bro Goronwy travelled to Prestatyn Sports and fortunately, having done their homework on the opposition were prepared for a physical and intimidating game. Half-time was reached without a goal to be seen – despite chances at both ends.
Prestatyn forged ahead three minutes after the break with a scrappy close range finish by Andrew Owen but it was enough to give them the lead. A lead they held with twenty minutes left, until, captain Dylan Jones flicked on to Liam Griffiths who, for the 2nd time this season, found the net with a spectacular overhead strike.

If Prestatyn had done their home-work, they would have known Bro have won over half of their games with late,,,,late, goals. This time though they had the luxury of ten minutes to spare.

With 4 of last seasons under 16's squad involved it was to be one of the youngsters that had everyone watching rubbing their eyes in disbelief and astonishment of the goal that was worthy of winning the match for Bro Goronwy.
It looked to be a nothing ball that was in the air 35 yards out from goal but after using his body strength to hold off his close marker Ryan Jones, in one single movement, brought the ball down with a deft touch and swivelled expertly before unleashing a long distance volley that rocketed directly into the top corner past the helpless McKeown.

Llanfairpwll are also through, hitting visitors Betws -y – Coed for six. Manager Mark Jones squad have themselves been subject to heavy defeats on a couple of occasions this term, so whilst he was both proud and pleased with the performance of his lads, especially the fact that all six goals were scored by different players, he also had sympathy for Betws. The six of the best were scored by, Iwan Roberts, Kevin Jones, Stephen Hughes, Richie Roberts, Dewi Thomas, and Jamie McQuarry with Thomas Casey scoring the visitors consolation .

Cemaes Bay are already through, claiming a late winner after being two goals up against Llangefni Town before they scared the living daylight out of the Bay by pulling ir back to 2-2 Seperate report logged last week
