PENTRAETH POUNCE TO WITHIN A POINT OF LEADERS

AS TOM TAYLOR CLAIMS ANOTHER HAT-TRICK

Pentraeth, began the day four points behind Leaders Morawelon, knowing that with their game at Cemaes postponed a win against visitors Newborough would see the just one point adrift - but with two games in hand. It was clear from the outset that they were going to grab the opportunity with both hands as they set off at a whirlwind pace and built up an eight goal lead by half-time with Tom Taylor having claimed yet another hat-trick. Mark Williams had set them on their way with a 25 yard screamer [10] and five minutes later Llion Williams doubled their lead. Tom Taylor notched his first on nineteen minutes and then there was a `little break’ for the visitors, before a Warren Fletcher shot from inside his own half made it four nil [30]. Four minutes later, Llion Williams then hit a 20 yard drive for his second and Pentraeth’s fifth, Taylor grabbed his second [36] before Gareth Roberts got in on the act to make it seven and as half time loomed Taylor completed his hat-trick to make it 8-0 at half-time. If Newborough had been `blown away’ by the whirlwind start by the hosts they came out for the second half looking more determined and organized and despite conceding another inside four minutes as Gareth Roberts struck his second, they began to press and cause problems and when match official, Arwel Jones, spotted an infringement inside the box, up stepped Gerwyn Williams to pull one back [66]. Sam Regan restored the home advantage [75] but another penalty award for the visitors three minutes later saw Gerwyn Williams repeat the punishment with his second strike from the spot to make it 10-2 Rees Roberts made it eleven for the hosts [80] but two minutes later Nathan Moore struck a beauty for Newborough. After the match Paul Hamson of Newborough – the `draw specialists’, praised the opposition and said, “We were blown away in the first half and had no answer to them. They were quicker, stronger and a hell of a lot better than us.” But then, tongue in cheek said, “ all we can say is at least we drew the second half 3-3, which is good!!!”
The result means that Pentraeth are now ONE point behind the leaders with two games in hand and the leaders still have to play at Pentraeth
