SAD NEWS FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED WITH THE KWAFL

By McCann Dave

AS WE LEARN OF THE DEATH OF LEWIS R. JONES

It is with deep sadness that I note for you the passing of Mr L. R. Jones.
The League Chairman, Dennis Bryant, telephoned me with sad news that LR [as he was fondly referred to] had passed away. He was a life member of the KWAFL and very rarely missed a meeting. He had recently been in hospital where the Chairman had visited him, and living where he did, the Chairman used to call at his home and reflect on football issues and discuss `problems’ that were or might affect the Anglesey League.

Although I did not know him well, certainly not as well as many of you, I always found him helpful and if there had been `conflict’ or `heated Debate’ [I resist using the word argument] in a meeting he would always come up to me at the end and say something along the lines, “...don’t let them get you down”, and be re-assuring. He never attended a meeting without coming up to me, at some point and quietly asking how I was. To me, he was a Gentleman, he had my respect and more importantly, I liked him.

Obviously, a great many of you involved with football on Anglesey , or not, knew him a lot better than I did and will have your own memories, but we all join together, at this sad time, and offer our deepest sympathies to his family who must be devastated.

We will miss him
