AS BRO COME BACK FROM TWO DOWN AGAINST GAERWEN

OUTSIDERS REPORT IS FOLLOWED BY REPORT PENNED BY PAUL SCHOLES

OUTSIDERE REPORT:-

With the top four teams in the KonX Wales Anglesey football league all playing at home it was essential that they collected three points as the title race `hots up’. But it didn’t quite work out that way with a shock or two during the ninety minutes and after.

Leaders Bro Goronwy welcomed Gaerwen Reserves, and did so with confidence following their recent results, and the home spectators no doubt anticipating another victory. But Gaerwen hadn’t read the same script and turned the form book upside down inside an eventful first half hour that saw BRO two goals down and a man short.

Striker Sion Morris had put the visitors ahead [27] and Paul Williams doubled their lead[30] and then the hosts were reduced to ten following a straight red and it looked `doom and gloom at Cae Nerys'. But Bro never say die attitude – and a bit of help from the visitors gave them a life line just before the break, Kelvin Jones trying to clear a cross defected the ball into his own net and it was 1-2 [43].
This gave the hosts hope and when captain Dylan Jones headed the equalizer [56] it was just the incentive they needed and five minutes later the turnaround was complete when Gareth Griffiths trying to get in before the attacker and clear a cross became the second Gaerwen player to find his own net to give Bro a 3-2 lead. There was no stopping the hosts and Taylor Jones increased their lead [68] and recent signing Ioan Hughes maintained his goal in every game record to make it 5-2 [72], and Bro could `relax’...
.......... not quite as Kelvin Jones atoned for his earlier `mishap’ by finding the hosts net to make it 5-3 but the leaders were not going to let it slip after such a fight back and duly collected the three points.

STUNNING COMEBACK SECURES BRO SIT TOP OF XMAS TABLE

Knowing the next league fixture might not be for another few months Bro Goronwy gained vital maximum league points to keep them in the mix in this years title race.
In the reverse fixture back in September Bro came from 3-1 down late on to plummet a 4-3 win & this game had similarities as Bro went 2-0 down and reduced to 10 men but confidently hit back to take a storming 5-3 win.

There looked to be only 1 team to open the scoring as Bro Goronwy applied all the opening pressure but could not find the finishing touches.
Taylor Jones heading onto the bar, Andy Williams forcing ex Bro stopper Phil Evans to save low down, captain Dylan Jones heading over and then Williams twice missing the target.
In Gaerwen's first meaningful attack they went 1-0 up, on the break Daryl Charlton ran well and laid a perfect through ball into Shaun Morris' path for the attacker to finish neatly low into the net.
Within minutes the away dugout were joyfully on their feet again as the away side went further ahead.
This time Morris was the provider, running wide before delivering a pin point cross for Paul Williams to roll back the years and apply a neat front post volleyed finish.
It went from bad to worse for the title contenders as their task in clawing back the game was made much harder, defender Tom Galloway receiving his marching orders for an off the ball incident.
No choice but to take the game to the visitors Bro applied pressure up until the half time whistle and went close on numerous occasions, Andy Williams striking the post, James Williams watching a free kick palmed over and then having to watch his curler bounce back of the top of the crossbar.
After 43 minutes the deficit was crucially reduced to a single goal, a lofted set piece put the defence in trouble and, under pressure from Sam Regan, Kelvin Jones could only help the ball past his own keeper for 1-2.
Half-Time 1-2.
The talk at half time was that you would still put your money on Bro Goronwy winning the match as they had plenty of time remaining and plenty of attacking prowess on the pitch.
Gaerwen captain Kelvin Jones dominated midfield possession early on but could not find the accurate enough through balls to feed the dangerous looking Shaun Morris.
Stopper Phil Evans was enjoying his afternoon back at Cae Nerys, excelling in denying Ioan Hughes from a fierce strike but was left bewildered after 56 minutes , unable to prevent Bro making it all level.
Regan flighted a corner kick into the danger area where Dylan Jones met the ball with a thumping header that flashed into the back of the net for 2-2.
To look at the game you would have thought Gaerwen had a man less as Bro now took the game by the scruff of the neck and dominated all the forward play.
Hughes' venomous cross ended up being turned into his own net by defender Gary Griffith as for the 1st time in the match Bro went ahead.
Hughes and Taylor were beginning to click up front and fine interplay between the strikers was only denied by another Evans stop.
After 68 minutes it was to be 4-2, a give and go between the same pair resulted in Taylor Jones giving Evans not a prayer as he smashed the ball high into the net.
Tired legs were setting in from the reserve players as they had no answer to Bro's forceful running at their opponents.
Hughes was next to put his name on the score sheet, controlling a delivery at the far post before taking his time to round the keeper and defender before slotting home for 5-2 and a comfortable cushion.
Kelvin Jones did pull a goal back after 87 minutes but it was to be too little to late, accepting Paul Williams' square pass after good work in the penalty area, leaving Jones to smash past stand in keeper Gareth Owen.
In the final action of the match Owen had to be at his sweeping best to out rush and tackle Williams who then unluckily got in the way of the rebounded shot.
A terrific 2nd period from the hosts cancelled out the poor 1st period as Bro Goronwy can now put the league table to bed for a period of time and let other teams catch up with games in hand on the leaders.
Full Time 5-3.

Pic : Gary Griffith (number 2) diverts the ball into his own net to put Bro 3-2 in front.
