CANCELLING CLASSY CEFNI COPMEBACK CELEBRATIONS

Llangefni Town Reserves, having disposed of Valley – one of the favourites, in round 1of the NWCFA Junior Cup faced an equally difficult round 2 tie, as they travelled to Cemaes Bay – the only unbeaten team in the league, and free scoring on home soil.
That is how it proved to be in an even first half, but of contrasting styles, with the visitors passing the ball around very well whilst the hosts took the more direct approach, playing the long ball game and creating far more chances with Steve Mason going through twice but couldn't get his shot away. Despite all their intricate passing in the middle of the park Cefni weren’t able to create any chances and especially as they seemed to be relying on a lone runner up front. The Bay broke the dead-lock when Ryan Jones played a delightful ball down the left to Steve Mason who in turn played youngster, Huw Torr, through to run on and smash a low drive to the bottom corner to make it 1-0 [22] The rest of the half was pretty quiet with the visitors not wanting to lose more ground before the, break packing mid-field, to such an extent that the two teams cancelled each other out. [H/T 1-0]

Llangefni came out for the second period knowing they needed to get back in to the game quickly if they were going to get anything out of it and started the better of the two and by pressing Cemaes back to on and around their own 18yds box which lasted for some 10 minutes or so, but Cemaes using their flanks to good effect sent Tam Morton scampering down the wing and he played it to the influential Steve Mason who crossed it for the inform Torr to blast home his second on 65 minutes. That was it, game over.....Cemaes were cruising at 2-0, playing the ball around to see out the last twenty minutes, but nobody told the visitors and the Llangefni management changed things around, immediately committing two out and out strikers as they began pushing towards the home defence and they gained their reward with a well worked goal as Dylan Jones accepted a great cross to rifle home and pulling it back to 2-1 with fifteen minutes remaining. Now the visitors were going for broke, but when the ball fell to Arwel Williams about 25 yards out, Cemaes were not unduly worried but he sent a blistering shot that flew in off the post and suddenly its 2-2 with 10 minutes left and the visiting fans chants go out...” it’s all gone quiet over there..”. There was no way this game was going to extra time because both teams were pushing for the win, and the winner came with just five minutes remaining. A great cross to the back post, fittingly from man of the match, the ever improving, Huw Torr wasn’t cleared and Cemaes Captain Steve Mason made it 3-2 to put them through into the next round. And they remain unbeaten.

Yet another marvellous mid-week match and Cemaes manager Darren Thomas was quick to praise opponents Llangefni for the tactical switch that brought them back from two goals down and made it anyone’s game in the last ten minutes. He went on to say “...What a great game...”, regardless of which team you wanted to win, “... and good support from both set of supporters.”

He was obviously proud of his whole squad but also gave praise to MOM Huw Torr for amatcjh winning performance.
