Kon-x Wales Anglesey Football League
Saturday 7th of JANUARY 2017

The first week in January saw two outstanding Q-F ties and two Kon-x Wales Anglesey League games, one of which saw leaders, Llangoed and District travel to Fifth placed Mynydd Llandegai for what on `paper’ was a `tricky’ encounter.

Mynydd Llandegai 0 v 1 Llangoed and District
Wayne Thomas 37]

It was a surprise that the game was on with the Tregarth pitch very heavy after the overnight rain making it difficult for both teams but to be fair neither team let the pitch dampen their spirits as Mynydd kicked off and both teams going straight for the jugular in search of three points. The hosts had the better of the opening exchanges going close on two occasions. The visitors suffered an early set back losing Owain C Roberts to a hamstring injury to be replaced by Mathew Roberts.
Despite all their pressing, Llangoed couldn't quite create the openings needed until Carwyn Williams broke free down the right hand side and looked to be cleanly taken out inside the box only for the match official to wave play on.
This spurred the away side on to take control of the game and on 29 minutes the ball broke to Darren Edmunds who unleashed a thunderous left foot shot into the roof of the net again to turn and see the referee disallow the goal and only to award a free kick to Llangoed on the edge of the area. Just when they thought it was going one of them days again at Tregarth, the breakthrough came for the visitors when Charlie Mckenna took the ball forward riding two challenges before playing the pass of the day between full back and centre half through to Edmunds who squared the ball to Wayne Thomas to hammer into the opposite corner of the net.
It could and maybe should of been 2 on 42 minutes when again Thomas and Mitchell Jones combined to play the ball through to Craig Jones who saw his first effort saved spectacularly by keeper Dave Ball with the rebound falling straight back to the striker but he could only find the opposite post and see the ball roll along the line safely into the keepers arms.
Half time 0-1

The second half began and it was Mynydd looking the more likely to capitalise again it was Liam Owen the big centre forward causing havoc who floated a lovely cross over and with the net gaping all Lewis had to do was roll it into an empty net but out of nowhere Mathew Roberts came and cleared the danger.
Roberts was again called into action to make a goal line clearance to keep the 1-0 lead in tact.
The tide turned again in the game in Llangoed's favour with the introduction of Llion Roberts who quickly starting to impose himself quite literally taking control and he floated an inch perfect cross to the back post and Craig Jones couldn't quite make the right connection with his head to give his side the safety net they wanted of a second goal.
Then a 50/50 tackle resulted with a reaction from a home player which saw the player shown red.
This was a real turning point as it fired the home side up for an onslaught on the league leaders goal area but they couldn't quite find the killer pass to bring the game level.
Game finished 0-1 to Llangoed

After match comment
Llangoed manager, Vincent Walker said “... I have to say it was one of the most entertaining 1-0's I've ever witnessed. Richard Hayes for Mynydd was instrumental in everything they did and Liam Owen battled hard upfront and man of the match performance from Llangoed was captain Nick Williams

BODORGAN Juniors 3 v 3 Bethesda Res. Elliott Patterson [52,80 Chris Griffiths [20] Gary Griffiths [72] Jack Roberts [76] Tomos Eames [90+2]

Once again, Bodorgan featured in a high scoring thriller. Falling behind, twice taking the lead only to fall to a `last kick of the game equalizer and have to settle for their first draw of the, season against a spirited Bethesda Reserves side. The two teams produced an exciting encounter and although the hosts began well, with Allaway heading just wide on seven minutes, it was the visitors who took the lead, Craig Jeffreys heading home a left wing cross.[20] The Juniors then went all out to pull level and could count themselves unlucky to be behind at the break. H/T 0v1
The second half opened in a similar vein as Aaron Jones fired wide on 50 minutes then on 52 minutes Patterson equalised as he headed in a corner from close range. This gave the juniors motivation to attack and Cameron Owen had a header well saved followed by Aaron Jones firing just wide. But on seventy two minutes the juniors got it right, and up popped Gary Griffiths to tap in from close range after good work from Patterson. Instead of consolidating the Juniors attacked and were caught on the break as Jack Roberts fired in from a deflected cross. When Patterson notched his second with ten minutes remaining it looked like a home win and with the ninety minutes up the three points looked in the bag. But Bethesda made on last break. And from a deflected cross Tomos Eames pounced and struck home the last gasp leveller and the points were shared
