TIGERS TITLE TURNS TO TREBLE DELIGHT – As they lift the IPP TROPHY
KONX-X WALES ANGLESEY LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON 2013/14
In its first year, the first final of the IPP Securities threw up the mouth watering contest between the newly crowned League Champions, Menai Bridge Tigers and Runners-up Morawelon. The Moras’, beset by injuries work commitments and suspensions took to the field two men short but some ten minutes later they were up to full complement and by the break had built up a 1-0 lead. Awarded a free-kick some thirty odd yards out, step forward Asa Thomas to score a spectacular goal that are fast becoming his trademark. The exchanges were quite even and some five minutes after the restart the Tigers were level. Liam McCann broke down the right to drill a ball across the goal mouth where, Dave Baston, not for the first time this season, fired home an important goal to level matters. It was a Tigers player who scored the next goal, Defender Craig Tipton heading home, into his own net to restore the Morawelon Lead. But back came Tigers, Liam McCann with a long throw, finding marksman Gareth Barker who does what he does best and planted the ball in the net for the equalizer. The Tigers now began to create openings and it was no surprise when pacy Andrew Barker joined his brother on the score sheet with a stunning 20 yard drive to edge the Tigers ahead [3-2] A fit again, Lance Williams, not wanting to miss out, hit a stunning effort from 25 yards into the roof of the net for goal number four to give them breathing space. Tigers fifth and final goal was one for the purists goal, and a fitting one to say `goodbye to the KonX Wales Anglesey League when a move involving most of the team, and some twelve or more passes saw Lance Williams finally play the ball through for, `live-wire Andrew Barker to run on to, and in a `one on one’ – even against the winner of the MOM award, Keeper Nick Murphy, there was only ever going to be one winner as Barker tucked away his second.
So Tigers clinched the TREBLE, and their Juniors will be looking to do the same this week, but spare a thought for Morawelon who ended an excellent season - until the last three weeks when hit by injuries and suspensions, with a Runners-up Treble
