TOP TWO TO TUSSLE TO TAKE TITLE

AS CEMAES DEFEAT RULES THEM OUT

KONX WALES ANGLESEY LEAGUE SEASON] 2014/15

There were two very significant games today in the KonX Wales Anglesey Football League. Whilst they wouldn’t decide the TITLE winners today, both games results would have a major say in its destiny and will hold the trophy aloft come MAY.
Cemaes Bay travelled to Valley knowing anything but a win would almost certainly rule them out of the race leaving a two horse race between Bro Goronwy and Valley.

Bro Goronwy, who seem to have been top since the season started, are slight favourites as they have the points in the bag but a win was a must, against visitors Llangoed & District today before they play their last two games......, BOTH against second placed Valley.

All three teams knew what was needed before they kicked off so.....

At Valley, with Cemaes Bay the visitors, both teams knew this was the big one. With the two to meet in two finals and the Bay having registered a resounding 5-0 in the home fixture, a close game was anticipated with neither side wanting to concede an early goal that might give their opponents the upper-hand. But it took just twelve minutes for the opening goal to arrive. The Bay, defending a corner, looked to have cleared the danger, as the ball was `belted clear' but the clearance reached Adam Roberts, standing outside the box, and with perfect timing, he volleyed the ball straight back into the net.

Despite the set-back Cemaes settled and began to see more of the ball, but the hosts were closing down quickly and restricting them any clear cut chances. On the half-hour mark, the home supporters had another goal to enjoy. Another corner saw Nathan Hughes drive the ball home to double the Valley lead. [H/t 2-0]

Cemaes desperate to get back into the game were unlucky when a long range effort bounced back off the upright and the score remained the same until the seventy eighth minute when Shane Boylan sent over an inviting cross and Barry Haig met it perfectly to volley it into the roof of the net [3-0].

Valley now were full of confidence and it was no surprise when Jason Hughes played a clever cross in to the path of Shane Boylan who volleyed home late in the game to make it four nil

After the match, Valley manager Adam Archer said, ”...revenge is sweet”, [referring to the drubbing when Cemaes hit them 5-0 at School Lane], “... but the three points are what matters most and it looks like it’s between the two of us now”,[meaning Bro Goronwy].

Cemaes manager Darren Thomas, obviously disappointed, was not going to let this one result overshadow what has been a tremendous season ...so far, as they look forward to two Cup finals and still have the possibility of two more. There are still league games for us to win and the chance of the `top two’ dropping points off each other as we aim for the highest possible placing.’
