WITH RICKY LAVELLE STRIKE VALLEY HIT 8 & PENTRAETH WIN

WITH APOLOGIES FOR DELAY

SATURDAY 5th November 2016
Bryngwran Bulls 1 v 2 Holyhead Town
Nathan Lewis h/t 1v0 Shaun Davies [p]
Ricky Lavelle

The Kon-x Wales Anglesey League has new leaders. With long time leaders Llangoed and District’s visit to Mynydd LLandegai falling foul to the heavy overnight rain, second placed Holyhead Town travelled to Bryngwran knowing a win would see them replace the leaders.
Town began confidently enough but the Bulls are a very capable side – lacking only consistency, and it was soon evident to the fans that this was going to be a game to remember. Early sparing had the sides evenly matched until the Bulls broke up a visitors attack deep in their own half, and quickly set off a counter attack down the flank which ended with Nathan Lewis firing into the net from an awkward angle on the edge of the box. The hosts held their lead to the end of the first half.
Holyhead, scorers of seventeen goals in their last four games came out for the second period in determined mood and upped the pressure on the hosts defence. But just as it looked they were coping, an ill judged challenge in the home box saw Town awarded a penalty and Shaun Davies duly obliged from the spot to make it all square. Now it really was game as, to their credit, both sides continued to pass the ball around in search of the winner. With some fifteen minutes remaining the winner came. A quick break by Holyhead ended with Ricky Lavelle finding the net for three valuable points to put them in top place, level on points with Llangoed but boasting a better goal difference and a game in hand.
After the match both managers were pleased with their teams’ performance and the quality of the football played, despite the blustery conditions. Whilst league officials at the game were in agreement that the two teams did the league proud.

Pentraeth Res. 2 v 1 Bodorgan Juniors
Robert Morris h/t 1v 0 Jason Owen
Chris Tutte

Report... with THANKS to Mr Robert Griffiths

The game at Pentraeth, where Bodorgan Juniors were the visitors, proved to be another close encounter of three goals. On a cold, blustery afternoon, Pentraeth started brightly playing down the slope and after just eight minutes Will Stockwell hit the post and then blasted another chance over the bar. Although the juniors were playing neat football, it all broke down in the last third, but on 19 minutes Dion Jones had a chance but headed wide. Bodorgan gained a foothold in the game but were restricted to long range efforts with Steven Hughes firing the best effort goal wards only to find keeper Walker in good form. On 36 minutes Robin Morris found himself in space in the penalty box and he rifled a cross shot in the net [1 v 0]. Although Bodorgan huffed and puffed a reply wouldn't and the score stood at half-time [1 v 0]
Bodorgan opened the second half strongly but Pentraeth defended manfully on 20 minutes Dion Jones fired wide from outside the box. Then on 52 minutes the visitors were level, Jason Owen powerfully bringing the ball out from the back unleashed a superb shot into the top corner from 30 yards. The juniors pressed hard for a winner as Owain Rowlands and Gerwyn Williams went close but Pentraeth had a stroke of luck on 63 minutes as the juniors keeper fumbled and the ball rolled into Chris Tuttes path and he duly scored. The juniors laid siege to the Pentraeth goal but couldn't create a clear cut chance as the Pentraeth defence stood solid. The juniors were restricted to long range efforts which custodian Kelly dealt with at ease, whilst efforts from Elliot Patterson and Sam Hallas sailed wide. Then on 82 minutes the juniors through had a glorious chance to level but though Sam Hallas beat the keeper his shot struck the bar and it wasn't to be Bod’s day.
Pentraeth earned their win because of their dogged defence and tackling whilst the juniors played nice football but couldn't penetrate in the final third. Although it was bonfire day this match was far from being a fire cracker though there were two bright sparks, for Pentraeth Will Stockwell and Jason Owen starred for Bodorgan.
