VALLEY EXTEND WINNING RUN FROM 17th OCTOBER

DESPITE PERFORMANCE OP YOUNG KEEPER BENTLEY

24/1/15 BRIEF ROUND-UP follows below:-

The weather during the week left a number of fields in such a `bad state’ that despite Saturdays’ sunshine only one game went ahead in the Kon X Wales AFL and that was the local Derby between Valley and Trearddur Bay Utd., Reserves in a Group 1 fixture in the Bwlch Car Boot Trophy

Valley in good form, and unbeaten since their set-back at Cemaes on the 17th of October, no doubt went into the game full of confidence but Trearddur quickly showed them they were in for a game as they almost took the lead straight from the kick-off. When, Anton Williams, broke clear to run on and unleash a drive that left the keeper helpless, only to see the ball rattle the woodwork and bounce to safety. Slowly Valley began to get to grips with the game and to dominate possession and create a number of chances, but they were unable to convert any with visiting keeper, Michael Bentley in fine form. The sixteen year old making his debut denied them with four first class stops and it looked like the half would end goalless, but with five minutes to go, a tremendous run down the right by Shane Boylan ended with a perfect cross for Tommy Jenkins to tuck the ball away from close range. [H/T 1-0].

The second half was much the same with Bentley again proving to be a stumbling block, but on the hour mark Valley were awarded a free-kick and Casey Boylan’s shot took a deflection on its way into the net. That looked to be it but with time almost up and the visitors pressing, a quick counter attack saw Gareth Wyn Roberts run clear, take the ball round the keeper Bentley, but leaving himself with a tight angle yet he was still able to tuck it away to make it 3-0
After the game Valley manager, Adam Archer remarked, ` he was pleased with the result, though in the first half he wondered if they were ever going to beat the young keeper’.

Michael, son of Robert Bentley who was a class act with Trearddur Bay in their Anglesey, Gwynedd League days, certainly showed his ability and `dad would have been proud of some of the saves he made’. It was his first game, but if he can continue to perform like he did, and as he gains experience, Trearddur Bay will be well pleased with their recent signing.
