VALLEY LEAVE IT LATE TO BOUNCE BACK

BUT BOYLAN BROTHERS & BACKHOUSE BEAT CEMAES

Mid-week, Valley travelled to Cemaes Bay in the BWLCH CAR-BOOT TROPHY, and possibly did so with some apprehension considering their last - visit under lights, saw them concede five goals without reply, and Steve Mason grab a hat-trick. Having, to date, only conceded nine League goals in total that result was a major shock and hurt. So manager Adam Archer had laid down the law and stressed the importance of keeping it tight, not giving Mason any opportunities and ensuring they did not conceded an early goal.

It worked...... for fourteen minutes, when the home keeper punted a long ball down field, where Sion Wyn Griffiths headed it on, and Steve Mason raced on to it, took the ball round the keeper a slid it home1-0 [15 mins]. Despite the efforts of both sides there were no further goals [H/T 1-0]

The half-time team talks were pretty much the same. Valley manager Adam, stressing the need for a goal to get back into it, but still to stay tight ensuring the bay didn’t get a second. Whilst Cemaes Manager, Darren spelt out, that despite their goal advantage they needed to be looking for more – one wasn’t enough, but at the same time they needed to be on their toes to stop Valley getting one.

As the minutes ticked away in the second period Cemaes still led by Mason’s 15th minute strike and had done so for an hour and possibly thinking they could keep it up. But with fifteen minutes remaining, the hosts were hit by double trouble..............in the shape of the Boylans’. Shane worked his way into the box about to pull the trigger only to be brought down, leaving match Official Alan Rowlands pointing to the spot.............. Step forward `Mr Reliable’, brother Casey to do the `buis’ and it’s all square. Then with two minutes left on the clock, Shane Boylan broke down the right to send over an inviting cross that Deion Backhouse met with his head to send the ball flying in to the net and put Valley ahead. [2-1]

Back came Cemaes and it looked like Huw Torr had saved the day with what was the last kick of the game, but keeper Justin Hughes pulled off a brilliant save to claw the ball away and ensure the Valley victory.
