VALLEY OF DOOM FOR TIGERS TITLE HOPES

By McCann Dave

AND MORAWELON INCREASE LEAD AT THE TOP

Saturday 26th of April
Valley turned the title race wide open with a stunning victory at the Bridge leaving Morawelon with the advantage over the challenging Tigers. Despite Manager Barry Roberts being in the land Down Under, his team certainly looked the part and began well, defending solidly. and breaking out well as a unit. So it was no real surprise when a ball in from the right was put away by Greg Parry. This brought a reaction from the Tigers, and following a couple of `easy chances’ being wasted they were soon level. There seemed no danger when the ball found its way to Danny Brookwell, just inside, to the left, of the box and facing away from goal. But in one sweet movement he spun round striking the ball as he was turning to send a powerful shot into the far corner of the net. In less than two minutes Tigers went ahead. The ball being headed on by Brookwell to Lance Williams who help it on with another header to where David Baston had ghosted in to strike the ball home and make it 2-1.
Valley were quick out of the blocks and early pressure paid off when a defender played the ball back for his keeper to `wellie upfield’, only for him to slice his kick..............into his own net, for an own goal and it was all square. Tigers roared forward in search of a `winner’ but so too did Valley, and it was their hardworking James Williams who broke clear to fire his shot across the keeper and into the far corner. Even though Tigers had six regulars `missing’ , nothing should detract from an excellent performance by Valley.

This was just the result Morawelon had been waiting for as it would put them in the driving seat, win their five remaining games and they will be Champions. Of course they needed to win their home encounter with Llandegfan Antelope first and with striker Asa Thomas back in the team they were confident going into the game. It took Thomas just fourteen minutes to put them in front and eleven minutes later he had doubled the advantage, and when Gary Jo’ added a third before half-time [38] the writing was on the wall for Antelope. In the second period Liam Patrick Williams made it four and not even a late consolation goal for the Lope could spoil the celebrations. The moras’ now have a four point lead over Tigers with five to play, whilst Tigers have six to play......./which includes Morawelon away. So it will be one of them!!
But wait, coming up on the rails is ABERFFRAW, after their hard fought win at Llangoed and District. The hosts enjoyed probably about 70% of the game, but couldn’t break down the Beffro defence’ and keeper Gerallt Roberts behind was in usual good form. On the two occasions they did the wood-work came to the rescue. Aber’ took the lead through a strike by Alun Williams, after good work by Dewi Thomas, though the host felt they should have been awarded a free kick before with Callum Graves being pulled back by an opponent. The second period was much of much off the same with Beffro defending solidly and catching the opposition on the break. One such move just after the hour mark saw the hosts concede a penalty and step forward hit man Gary Bolton and its..............................2 – 0. With six games left Beffro can make 46 points if they win all their games whereas Tigers can make 50 and Morawelon 51 so you may well ask why use the term “..........coming up on the rails”. Well, Morawelon host the Tigers, and both can’t win, and MORE importantly Beffro are waiting to welcome BOTH in the League !!!!!! Watch this space as once again the Championship is neck and neck and will probably aging go to the last game of the season.
The most in form team in the League Cemaes Bay came unstuck at Holy Isle, although the early stages saw both sides create but none were converted. As the game wore on, the hosts were able to stop Cemaes from playing their normal game by closing down quickly, denying them space, which frustrated the Bay and led to disagreement in the ranks. Cemaes had no doubt underestimated the Isle, whose quick tempo passing together with the pace of winger Tom Hughes & striker Gethin Rowlands caused them problems at the back. The two linked up with Ali Williams, exchanging passes and ending with Hughes rifling the ball into the top far corner from 20 yards out [27] in the second half Holy Isle look in complete control, looking a threat going forward and the defence solid throughout. Isle missed a good chance before up steps Gethin Rowlands pouncing on a quick pass from the wing turning quickly at the edge of the box and finishing clinically in the bottom right corner. At just 19 he is now showing what he's capable of, scoring 5 goals in his last 3 games.
Certainly one to watch out for next season.
AFTER MATCH QUOTE FROM HOLY ISLE MANAGER Scott Marsden:-
“... a solid all round performance from my lads, We beat a very strong In form side today and not only did we beat them but we totally outplayed them. To think we only had 11 players available and had our back up outfield player in goal Jacob Reid who was fantastic today”.

Where next?
