VALLEY VICTORS OVER MAES Y BRYN IN 7 GOAL THRILLER

AS SILLENCE HITS TWO MORE

SATURDAY 24TH OF OCTOBER 2015
With just two of the scheduled league games going ahead in the KonX Wales Anglesey Football League, it proved to be an ideal day for leaders Bro Goronwy as they set the pace, extending their lead at the top by seven points over, both rivals, Llanfairpwll Res., and Maes y Bryn. A well earned victory at Llangoed & District, scoring two and not conceding gave them maximum three points, second placed Llanfairpwll did not play, and fourth placed Valley gave them a `helping hand’ with their victory over third placed Maes y Bryn.
Valley weren’t looking at it as helping Bro Goronwy or concerned about how their win affected the leaders. Quite simply, they knew victory for their visitors would take them to twenty one points leaving Valley still on twelve. So they were geared up for the game and determined to collect maximum points.
But, so too, were their visitors, who took an early lead through marksman Paul Ainsworth, and the goal could have knocked Valley’s confidence, but undaunted back they came and when Jerome Sillence was brought down in the box, he got up dusted himself down, placed the ball on the spot and dispatched it into the net [1-1]. The goal did lift the hosts and they doubled their lead when Nathan Hughes curled in a cross that evaded everyone until it hit the roof of the net [2-1]. Valley were unlucky not to increase the lead when Borja Palana Lorenzo hit a screamer from some 25 yards that bounced back off the woodwork. His luck changed when he made it 3-1just before the break [h/t 3-1]
The visitors set about pulling it around, but Jerome Sillence made it 4-1 and there seemed no way back for the boys from Bangor, but they showed their metal as Andy Clarke pulled one back [4-2] and Clarke notched a second to make it 4-3 and it was all to play for in the final stages,. But Valley stayed focussed and saw time out for a decisive victory.
The table for the top four now reads :-
Team P W D L FOR AG'ST G/DIFF Points
Bro Goronwy 9 8 1 0 46 9 37 25
Llanfairpwll Res. 7 6 0 1 39 6 33 18
Maes y Bryn 9 6 0 3 27 16 11 18
Valley 8 5 0 3 17 19 -2 15
