VALLEY VICTORY

AS BARRY ( winnie) HITS WINNER

LLANGEFNI TOWN 0 V 1 VALLEY FC.

Valley FC made their first appearance of the season – due to club withdrawal, as they travelled to Llangefni Town Reserves, for what turned out to be yet another, close, entertaining and exciting Anglesey league fixture. The only sad aspect was that with the game having had to be brought forward two days [more about that at the end] that there were not more spectators present to enjoy an excellent game

Both teams played the ball around with style and purpose and chances were created as a consequence. The visitors were denied by the wood-work and a goal-line clearance, but so too were the hosts as the game continued to be end to end, and the two defences putting in a full shift It was clear that there wouldn’t be many goals in it, so whoever found the net first would most probably take the points. The half-time drinks were being set out ready, when Connor Williams made a darting run down the left flank, and cut the ball back for Barry (Winnie) Roberts, to run on to and drive the ball home to put Valley ahead. The second half produced much of the same, as Cefni battled for the equalizer, whilst Valley sought to kill the game off with a second goal. Midway through the second half Shaun Jenkins thought he had scored that ` killer goal’ when from a corner kick, with the Ball loose inside the six yard box he forced the ball home....... 2-0, but WAIT,..... NO, the `eagle eyed’ assistant referee had spotted an infringement and the joy was short lived as match oficial Alan Rowlands ruled the effort out. Cefni were unable to break open the Valley defence and as the time ticked, slowly, away and the visitors looked more determined and comfortably held on to take the three points.

Valley Manager Adam Archer was both pleased to get their first game played and register a win.
He said, “the lads had been ... `straining at the leash’ to play and were well up for it, and I thought we deserved to win.” But he was quick to point out that, “ Cefni showed what a very good side they are and they will no doubt be there or there abouts at the end of the season. “

It's all action in the box as the Cefni player rises head and shoulders above the rest and the keeper comes out to punch clear. [All under the watchful eye of the Valley player crouched down for a better view !!]

An apology ▼

On behalf of the Anglesey league I apologise to spectators who may not have seen the notice on the web-site stating the game had been brought forward and as a result missed last night game. The Anglesey League Fixture Secretary had, way back in July, scheduled this game for FRIDAY THE 29th OF AUGUST 2014, with Llangefni Town keen to follow suit with Cemaes Bay and reap the benefit of the big increase in spectators /supporters. Having already played one Friday night game – the local Derby against Gaerwen Reserves, and enjoyed the increased `takings’ at the turnstiles, the club were looking forward to the Friday night visit of Valley F.C. Club Secretary, KAREN PARRY – ROWLANDS had said in her e-Mail [s] to me, “... we are eager to play Friday night games.”
So, why then are you the supporters being `messed about’. To answer that question, we return to Karen – and her e-Mail, ” I have been made aware by the Welsh Alliance League rules that, no game from other leagues can be played 24hrs prier to Welsh Alliance game." So, hence the change.

League Secretary, Dave McCann said, "It's a good thing that the Welsh Alliance league are `on the ball' and keeping a watchful eye on the lower leagues because if the WAL secretary hadn't pointed out this particular rule to Karen [the club], the game would have been played on the Friday night and then the Anglesey League, [Heaven forbid], could have been guilty of breaking the rules.

He went on to say, although the rule quoted by the secretary, above, was `no game from other leagues can be played 24 hrs prior to Welsh Alliance games' the game on the same ground the following day is a Welsh cup match, but I’m sure that can be classed as important as a WAL game.
