VALLIANT VALLEY VICTORIOUS

By McCann Dave

DESPITE DOWN TO TEN MEN

Valley suffered an early set-back, when after just five minutes they were reduced to ten men following a dismissal for serious foul play but they put it behind them and set about gaining control with a mixture of determination added to the skill factor. They had created a couple of chances only to find the visitors keeper Phil Evans produced a fine save to push a Gareth Roberts shot on to the bar, and go full length to deny Jenkins. The hosts were then awarded a free-kick and Gareth Roberts saw Evans parry his shot at full length but the alert Craig Broadie was in like a flash to tuck the loose ball away and give Valley the lead [20]. Valley were given the opportunity to double their lead when they were awarded a penalty......... up stepped Sion Jenkins who saw his spot-kick well saved by the impressive Evans.

The second half saw Gaerwen trying to make their man advantage count but each player in a Valley shirt gave ` a little bit more’ to compensate, and it was the hosts looking most likely to score ............. if they could Manage to beat Evans again. Gareth Roberts who had been frustrated by the keeper on three occasions looked to have finally beaten him but again with, amazing agility he somehow twisted in mid-air to turn the ball away to safety. His performance lifted his team-mates who set about trying to find the equalizer though the Valley rear guard were in miserly mood giving nothing away, and as the game ebbed away Sion Jenkins made up for his penalty `miss’ with the second to ensure the points and maintain their unbeaten status.
