NWCFA JUNIOR CUP DELAYED TIES

In the NWCFA Junior Cup ties postponed from last Saturday two KonX Wales Anglesey League teams both progressed to round three. Aberffraw travelled to F.C. Tudno to meet a young but skilful side that proved to be stern opposition for the Anglesey side. They began well and were awarded a tenth minute penalty but Beffro’ keeper Gerallt Roberts pulled off an excellent save. The exchanges were fast and furious but the deadlock was not broken until the thirty eighth minute when the visitors Darren Rowlands broke clear to run on and chip the ball over the keeper to give them a half-time lead. In the second period sixteen year old Gareth Wyn Hughes scored his first ever goal for Aberffraw to double their lead [57]. But it did not deter the Tudno youngsters and three minutes later Ryan Jones broke clear of the visitors defence to run on and drive the ball home. Spurred on they pressed for an equalizer but the next goal was scored by Richard Roberts of Aberffraw and it was fitting that he should score, what in the end proved to be the winner, for his work rate and tireless running he put in for his team [75]. Still the home side pressed and two minutes later they pulled another back, again through Ryan Jones who took advantage of a hesitant defence to nip in and score his second of the day [77] which meant a hectic last thirteen minutes for Beffro’ even though they were able to hold on to go through.
Llangefni Town Reserves, had no such troubles at Rhuddlan Town reserves where they finished with `one over the eight’. Leading the way for the Islanders was Dion Jones who grabbed himself a hat-trick and his three team mates all narrowly failed to join him and settled instead for doubles, Gerallt Roberts[2], Emlyn Davies [2] and Gareth Wyn Hughes [2]
