ABERFFRAW FALL AT FELIN'

By McCann Dave

IN ROUND 3 OF NWCFA JUNIOR CUP

In, our featured match, Aberffraw went down two nil at CPD Felinheli where the hosts played some lovely football despite the atrocious conditions and up front possessed both pace and quality. It took Felin’ just seven minutes to break the dead-lock when Tom Davies leapt highest to power a header towards t he top corner which keeper Gerallt Roberts managed to get his finger tips to but only succeeded in pushing it against the underside of the cross bar where it bounced down and was `hoofed clear’. But despite the visitor’s appeals, both the assistant referee and Match Official Mr Brian Anderson had instantly ruled it had crossed the line. Felin pressed hard for a second and went close a number of times. But at the other end 16 year old Gareth Wyn Hughes who scored his first goal for Beffro’ in the last round had a great chance to equalize as the ball was crossed cutting out the keeper and leaving him with an `open goal’ but he snatched at it and `lifted’ the ball over the bar., and at the break Felin’ still led by the single goal. The second period saw the hosts going for the `kill’ and won four successive corners. Gerallt Roberts palmed away the first and even as he fell to the ground Daniel Hughes was blasting the ball back to goal and Roberts managed to block it at the expense of another corner. This time Roberts punched clear and a defender deflected the follow up shot. Twice more corners were blocked before the visitors were able to get a hold of the ball and press forward themselves. In doing so they were leaving themselves exposed at the back ,and one long clearance up field by the home keeper saw Roberts run out to kick the ball clear but it hit the on rushing forward to bounce inches past the upright. As the game wore on there was no denying the home front men and Daniel Hughes rounded of an fine performance with the second and gave Felin’ a deserved win and no doubt one or two left in the competition will be looking to avoid them. the ball to him
