CEMAES WINNERS IN BATTLE OF THE BAYS

By McCann Dave

IN CLOSE FOUGHT TIE

In the BWLCH CAR BOOT Trophy it was a clash of the Bays with Cemaes having the home advantage and taking a seventh minute lead. Awarded a free-kick, the ball was floated in evading the defenders and Keiron Thomas tucked it away.

If that caused the home fans to anticipate a goal blitz it never came. In fact Dave Webb in the first half, twice found himself in one on one situatons with the keeper but failed to take either chance and then team-mate Jordan Jones was clear in a one on one with the keeper and failed to convert. It was to prove costly because despite the visitors restricting Cemaes to the one goal, in the second half they took a double blow with Dan Jones doubling the Cemaes advantage [75] and then losing a player to a red card.

Yet it did not stop Trearddur from pulling a goal back with Dave Webb breaking down the flank before pulling a ball back around the eighteen yard box where Jordan Jones met it on the volley to side foot home to make for an exciting finish.

round-up:-
In the Quarter-Final of the William Hill Elias Cup, in form Valley welcomed Llangefni Reserves, who had already `dumped’ them out of the NWCFA Junior Cup. So the hosts were prepared for a hard battle to reach the semi final. Valley were quick to create an opening, Shaun Jenkins racing down the right flank to send an inviting cross into the box but the Cefni defence managed to thwart the early attack. The game was open and it was clear that there were going to be goals and it wasn't long until Valley opened the scoring. Gareth Wyn Roberts threaded a perfect through ball for Adam Roberts to race onto and just as the powerful midfielder was about to pull the trigger, he was pulled down resulting in a penalty. Step forward Casey `confident’ Boylan who, not for the first time this season, dispatched it with ease sending the impressive Llangefni goal keeper the wrong way 1-0 (8). It wasn’t long before the score was doubled. A switch of play from left to right between Boylan and Jenkins ended with his cross being met by Gareth Wyn Roberts who calmly slotted it home (15), and it wasn’t long before he notched ,his second. The impressive Tommy Jenkins tried his luck from distance but his shot rebounded off a Town defender, and quick as a flash, Roberts was on to the loose ball and steered it in off the up-right (27)./ At 3-0 it became one way traffic and with the break looming, Tommy Jenkins received the ball to his feet and with footwork that would grace `come dancing’, he turned the defender inside out, and struck the ball with such force the goalkeeper didn't move, as the ball flew straight into the top left hand corner for his first of the day...............................and it wasn't to be his last (40)
Half Time - 4-0

The second half started like the first with the hosts on the attack from the off, and the hard working Gareth Wyn Roberts threaded a superb ball through to Tommy Jenkins who coolly tucked away finished for his second of the day 5-0 (46). It was double trouble for town when the Jenkins brothers combined well for Tommy to net again to register his first hat-trick of the season 6-0 (47) Brother Shaun looking to get in on the act, worked his way into the box only for a Town defender................step up Casey, ............No, defender, Ashley Hughes stepped forward and duly netted his first of the season 7-0 (70)
Valley were in `seventh Heaven’ until the Towns’ MOM, Arwel Williams denied them a `clean sheet’. Out wide on the left, he tried to curl the ball over the keeper and was delighted to see the ball sail over the outstretched arms of Valley keeper Justin Hughes for an excellent goal 7-1 (80)

After the match, Manager Adam Archer praised his team for, “... a brilliant performance that would have destroyed any team - Cefni were just unlucky to be that team today, and deservedly sees the lads with a third Semi final to look forward to”.

In the KonX Wales AFL, league leaders Bro Goronwy travelled to fellow `Title Hopefuls’, Holy Isle, who had not played since before Christmas, and it showed. The hosts may have been rusty through lack of playing time, but should have been `busting a gut’ and ready to give their all to turn over the leaders and further their own chances, but for some reason it seemed like they didn’t want to put a shift in and never quite competed in the way they needed if they were going to win and as a result Bro Goronwy controlled the game from start to finish. Although it was a team performance, it also proved to be a personal triumph for Iona Hughes who completed a hat—trick, to go with his `goal a game’ since his transfer to Bro. It was Hughes who opened the scoring with a powerful shot [33] and before the break he notched his second cutting in from wide to drive the ball low past keeper Farrell for 2-0
[H/T 0-2]

The second half looked like it would be much the same with the visitors controlling matters, and Just over the hour mark Hughes completed his hat-trick leaving the Isle with a mountain to climb and that wasn’t made any easier by their strikers ``wasting’ a couple of good opportunities which they were made to regret when Sam Reagan made if four from a corner. The final nail in the Isle coffin was when marauding Full back James Williams the ball out wide towards the touchline and yet he confidently curled his shot over the keeper and into the top corner for goal number five.
