Valley Progress in Junior Cup

Williams Hat rick secures win

Could valley come back following a very poor display and result in last weeks local derby against caergybi fc?? The answer..... YES.
In recent years valley have come short in this competition, loosing in the quarterfinal in the 2015-2016 season in the 5-4 thriller against Colwyn Bay, and more recently going down to 2 wondergoals in a 2-0 defeat to Llansannan fc
Manager Barry Rowlands made many tactical and personnel changes going into a game against higher league opponents.
It looked like the valley boys were going to be in for a tough afternoon as Machno were fired up and ready to put in a display to see them progress. In 15 minutes, they saw 3 strikes from inside the valley box go wide and goalkeeper Ellie Duran pull of a great save from a close range effort. Valleys first threat saw Dave Webb find Barry Haigh who made no mistake in finding the net. Soon after, mark Hamblin played a pass to mike Williams, who clipped the ball over and top scorer Justin Williams lifted the ball high over the goal keeper, and landed just in time to go under the crossbar. Barry Haigh saw 2 efforts on goal disallowed although seemed perfect goals. This encouraged valley to put in that extra effort, Marc Wilson running at the full back and after cutting in side was brought down, 20 yards out. Mark Hamblin taking the responsibility of the free kick hit a powerful strike into the top corner to make it 3-0 at the break.
Second half was to be as the first started,
Brothers Ashley and Justin Hughes, along with George Hebert in the back were solid, dealing with every threat from the visiting side. Goal keeper Durkan was on hand to keep out any shots attempted.
Nik Kontodios making his debut was putting in some outstanding tackles in centre midfield. One of which saw him win the ball, play it to wide man Wilson who took a touch before playing through Justin Williams to score an identical goal as his first effort.
Following a hard 50/50 challenge, the influential midfielder, mark Hamblin took a nasty cut to his ankle and had to be replaced by the energetic Danny Roberts. Machno we're tiring , especially with the pace of Dave Webb running constantly, and with 20 minutes to go, manager Barry Rowlands made his last 2 substitutions. Bringing off the tired Wilson and nick Kontodios. And replaced them with the speedy Ryan Hall and reliable Centre back Jack Peters. Both fitting right in in the game, and joined together to create valleys 5th, peters playing the ball wide to Ryan Hall , beating 2 men and whipping a cross to find Barry Haigh who acrobatically volleyed into the net. Soon after Justin Williams netted his 3rd hat trick of the season and completed the scoring.
Next round is another home tie on the 9th of December against Hope Wanderers.
