HARBOURMEN HOME IN ON LEADERS

STILL WITH GAMES IN HAND

Kon-x Wales Anglesey Football League

Saturday 18th of FEBRUARY 2017
Both KWAFL teams involved in NWCFA Junior Cup ties over the week-end were unceremoniously dumped out of the competition by senior league teams. Pentraeth Reserves going down nine nil at Bro Goronwy - Patrick Roberts grabbing a hat-trick in just 37 minutes and Llangoed seven nil at Llanefydd - Gwion Owen hitting a Hat-trick

Meanwhile Holyhead Town were looking to catch up in the league by getting some of their games in hand out of the way and replaced with points. They welcomed Mynydd Llandegai Reserves six points behind League Leaders Llangoed and district but with three games in hand

Holyhead Town 2 v 2 Mynydd L:landegai Reserves Sion Davies, Barry Lavelle Mike Williams [2]

Both reams were well aware that with the gale force wind it was going to be the proverbial game if two halves and the with the Harbour men choosing to play into wind in the first half they knew it was all hands on deck time.
The visitors wasted no time in using the wind to there advantage when a free kick from the half way line was not dealt with by the Town defence and Mike Williams headed home. [0-1 24th minute]

However Town were fighting back and defending like lions and on the 36th minute they had a break when Jackie Welsh released Sion Davies who ran on to beat the keeper in a one on one to finish of a great counter attack. [1-1 36th]

H/T 1 v 1 The host now had the wind with them and set about turning the advantage into goals but in the 55th minute a `mix-up’ at the back left Mike Williams with a chance that he blasted home 1-2

The pressure was on town now and they were pressing as hard and as high as they could to get the equaliser shot after shot was defended brilliantly by the Llan defence but at last....a 78th Minute corner swung over by Barry Roberts saw Barrie Lavelle leap the highest and head home the equaliser. 2-2

Both sides battled till the final whistle but a draw was probably a fair result

The Harbour men are now five points adrift of leaders Llangoed but have two games in hand and have the advantage of having to play the leaders at home... watch this space..
