HIGGINS BRACE SECURES THIRD PLACE

FOR LLANDEGFAN ANTELOPE

In the KONX WALES Anglesey Football League, Llandegfan Antelope played hosts to Amlwch Town Reserves and with Newborough not playing they knew that any result better than Aberffraw would see them in third place.
With that incentive they were quickly out of the traps and Gerwyn Roberts put them ahead in the eighth minute with a peach of a volley that flew into the top corner. The play then settled to a midfield battle with neither side taking control and chances were few and far between. With half time approaching, a strong tackle left a home striker grounded just inside the right hand side of the box, and referee Mr R.J. Williams had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Up stepped Jack Higgins and the keeper was just beginning his dive as the well struck spot kick was hitting the back of the net to increase the lead.
The second half, at times played in torrential rain, took a similar course, with defences on top and a struggle for dominance in midfield. Some of the football played in such difficult conditions was a credit to both teams, but chances were at a premium. The visitors trailing by two goals had to go for it if they were to get back into the game and at times they left themselves exposed at the back. With the Antelope looking to capitalize on this, they made it three and it was, top scorer, Higgins, with his second, who did the damage. A ball played in with pace by Gerwyn Roberts was met on the volley, with full force, by Higgins to send it rocketing into the roof of the net [72].
As Aberffraw could only draw, the result puts Llandegfan Antelope in third place.
