MAESTRO MASON MAKES MERRY IN MEGAN

CUP VICTORY

FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL [19/9/14]

Another Friday night, another decent crowd and another entertaining game as Holy Isle, who have only lost one game this season, travelled to Cemaes Bay - the team that inflicted that defeat, for this HUWS GRAY Megan Cup 1st. round tie.

Holy Isle settled quickly and dominated for the first twenty five minutes but failed to breach the home defence, and it was against the run of play when Sino Griffiths took a neat pass from Steve Mason in his stride before firing home from just outside the box. The goal certainly lifted the hosts and within three minutes they had doubled their lead, Dan Jones scoring with a long ranged drive [32].

The Isle pulled goal back within minutes, Steve Jewel finding the net with a 25 yard cracker [35] as they looked to pull the game around, but a mix of defensive sloppiness and quality finishing saw them trail 4-1 at the break, Steve Mason - with an assist already, hitting two in the space of a minute.

If Cemaes were hoping for an easy ride in the second period they were soon to have those hopes dashed when the Isle were awarded a free-kick some 20 yards out and Captain Stuart Jewell leading by example blasted home to make it 4-2 and game on [60].

The game for the last half hour had an added bite to it as both sides went for broke. The Isle pulled another back after MOM Stuart Jewell linked with Matt Roberts who scrabbled it home from close in for their third goal, but not before impressive Huw Torr scored the goal of the game to make it five [82]

Cemaes will now play host to Llangefni T. Res., in round 2.
