IN LOCAL DERBY V BODORGAN

With just two games in the KonX Wales Anglesey football league the `game of the day’ was the local derby between Bodorgan and Newborough , with both teams looking to grab some points and `boasting rights’ from this league match, turned out to be exciting, enjoyable and even had a dramatic finish clouded in controversy right to the end. The visitors began the more brightly passing the ball with style and purpose but at times left themselves open to the counter attack .but when Kyle Roberts made one such break and was one on one with the keeper his shot was blocked the cleared. At the opposite end a curling free kick was heading to the bottom corner until home keeper Chris Evans clawed it away, only for the ball fall at the feet of an attacker who was quickly challenged by Nathan Evans. Bodorgan were shocked to see the referee point to the penalty spot, but in their glory when Keeper Chris Evans made a tremendous save to keep it score-less at the break.
The restart saw Newborough on the attack and after linking several passed together, Nathan Moore was left through on goal and as the keeper came out to close him down he placed the ball neatly passed the helpless keeper into the bottom corner. 0-1. The hosts quickly set about pulling it back and when they did it was with an amazing 70 yard strike. Awarded a free-kick deep in their own half, Centre Back, Sion Andrew Jones stepped forward and launched the ball with some power into the opposition goal area, where it was missed by everyone in a crowded box and bounced in front of the Newborough keeper, up and over his head to land in the back of the net to make it all square. With time fast running out it looked being yet another Newbro’ draw, but on ninety minutes a controversial decision by the referee following a `crunching tackle’ saw Bodorgan claims for a free kick waived aside and instead allowed Geraint Sidall of Newborough to run on and strike the ball accurately wide of the keeper and into the bottom corner for the winner and three points that takes them into third spot, behind Pentraeth and Morawelon.
