FOR BRYNGWRAN BULLS & LLANGOED IN BWLCH TROPHY

Saturday 17th of SEPTEMBER 2016
Saturday saw the KWAFL clubs concentrating on the BWLCH Car boot Trophy. League leaders, Llangoed and District entertained Bodorgan Juniors and no doubt did so with confidence but the first half played on a sun soaked pitch – more in keeping with weather for the beach, the host might just as well been on the beach rather than a football field. Bodorgan were not lazing around and straight from kick off went on the attack and won a free kick some 35 yards from goal, and saw the ball floated over a completely flat footed defence to find debutant Cameron Owen who hammered the ball home from 10 yard and under 2 minutes on the clock.
Their lead lasted a mere 3 minutes when some lovely football found Martin Byast open from twelve yards his shot took a slight deflection which didn't change the course of the shot and it ended up in the back of the Bodorgan net. This should have been the wake-up call for the hosts.......but no it was the visitors who reacted. Aaron Jones broke free and a rash tackle from Charlie McKenna brought him down in the box and the referee rightly pointed to the spot. Aaron Jones picked himself up, dusted him down and slammed the ball home 1-2 Bodorgan and only 15 minutes gone.
On 17 minutes Mr prolific Carwyn Williams netted after breaking free down the right rounding the goalkeeper and finding the far corner.
On 26 minutes Craig Jones joined in on the act netting after a lovely through ball from Jamie Roberts down the left flank found Craig in a one on one race with Bodorgans defence which he won and fired home from 20 yards out .Now the hosts heard the wake-up call, Mathew Owen floated an inch perfect cross which Wayne Thomas met perfectly and with the ball flying into the top corner keeper Josh Roberts pulled off one of the saves of the season.
On 38 minutes a reshuffle of the pack and a Mathew Owen cross was met by Carwyn Williams on the far post with a diving header 4-2 Llangoed at half time without playing to the standard which was expected.
The 2nd half was a completely different story, Llangoed finally showed the expected form we all wanted to see. On 47 minutes Darren Edmunds netted on the 3rd time of asking from 6 yards firing past 3 defenders on the line.
On 52 minutes Darren Edmunds doubled his tally after a perfectly weighted ball from Owain Roberts found him completely unmarked 18 yards out for him to clinically find the top left corner.
Goal number seven came from the penalty spot which the regular pen taker Craig Jones gave to Carwyn Williams to complete his hat trick.
Carwyn wasn't finished there on 68 minutes he notched his 4th of the game and Llangoed's 8th after driving down the right flank and firing low and hard into the far corner of the goal.
On 75 minutes Craig Jones doubled his tally for the day when he met a cross from the right of the pitch with a powerful header from 12 yards out.
So often the provider today and not to end the game empty Llangoed talisman Wayne Thomas was played in by Craig Jones who hammered the ball from 20 yards into the roof of the net for his first of the match and finish the game 10-2.
The Bodorgan managers comments at the game said it all when he said that “.....once Llangoed found their rhythm it could have been 20.
There was no such `goal Rush’ at Valley, where Holyhead Town were the visitors and both sides battled for supremacy in a very competitive yet entertaining game with the defences were on top.
Despite the strong defences there were still a number of chances and Justin Williams thought he had put the hosts ahead as his effort was on its way into the net, but turned away in frustration as keeper Elliot Smith somehow clawed it out. Holyhead opened the scoring and it was no surprise that Tom Hadley tucked it away. He has been a consistent scorer this season, finding the net in all but one game, that game being in the Bwlch Car-Boot Trophy so he made up for it with the first half winner at Valley.
The hosts gave their all as they sought an equalizer but were denied again when Ashley Hughes powerful free-kick produced another brilliant save from keeper Smith.
Valley manager Dan Jones paid tribute to the opposition after the game when he said,,,,,,,,,,”it proved to be a difficult game for us with Holyhead seemingly able to keep the ball most of the game. We gave it our best shot but they are a very good side with an in form keeper.”
