PENTRAETH HIT THE TOP

AND TOPPLE LONG TIME LEADERS MORAWELON

PENTRAETH sit at the top of the league tonight, having displaced long time leaders Morawelon, proudly boasting a one hundred per cent record of, played nine, won nine, and a goal difference of 35. They took over pole position after claiming all three points at third placed Llanfairpwll with a 3-0 win in an entertaining and at times a close game. They began well stroking the ball around with style and purpose and making full use of a wide field. The only goal in the first half coming from one such move. The ball was played out wide to, marauding right back Sam Regan – who last season paraded his skills for Llanfair, and he ran on before cutting into the box to drill a low ball across the six yard box that was just begging to be tucked away, and it duly was , by the inrushing Gareth Roberts . Despite some excellent approach work this was the only clear cut opening they had made and the hosts were always ready to catch them on the break.
The second half began quite evenly but the hosts suffered a double blow when Paul Edmunds had to leave the field for treatment, and during the period they had ten men Pentraeth increased their lead. A corner kick was swung over towards the far post, and Tom Taylor was closely marked by a defender as the kick was taken, but by the time the ball came over Taylors' marker was nowhere to be seen as rose majestically to power an unstoppable header into the roof of the net. As if that wasn’t bad enough for the hosts, when the injured player returned to the field, he found himself in a tussle for the ball with Taylor and pulled up injured again as Taylor ran on to drive the ball home for the third. Llanfair threw caution to the wind and pressed hard and in the final fifteen minutes created a number of openings with Ryan Parsons taking the eye for the hosts. Their best chance came when a power drive from Parsons had the keeper sprawling full length to keep it out and it fell to Joe Vousden, who with the keeper grounded and the goal at his mercy, pulled his shot wide of the upright.
After the match the both managers said they were pleased with their team’s performance – if not the result, and whilst Manager Vinny Walker rued the spell with ten men, Mat Parry said “Llanfair gave us the hardest game of the season and they are to be congratulated on their play”.
