BRO WIN KEEPS THEM TOP, VALLEY TAKE SECOND PLACE

WITH JENKINS HAT-RICK AND ROBERTS GETS THREE FOR CEFNI IN SATURDAY ROUND-UP.

ROUND UP SATURDAY 29th NOVEMBER 2014

With Cemaes Bay having collected three points – and five goals, on Friday night against visitors Gaerwen Reserves’ it was essential that leaders Bro Goronwy followed up their defeat of Cemaes by picking up maximum points in the visit of Trearddur Bay Utd., Reserves and maintain their six point lead.

In a game that never quite lived up to expectations – neither side being at their best, Bro achieved their goal and registered the victory required and retain the six point advantage. The leaders had taken the lead when Centre Back, cracked home a free-kick from fully 25yards [18] . The goal was somewhat against the run of play but despite TREARDDUR BAY creating chances, Captain, Matt Jones headed one wide from close range, and Connelly suffered a similar fate with another, the break arrived with the goal still separating the two sides.

In the second period, Bro increased their lead with another dead-ball situation, this time from much closer in as Match Official Dewi Morris pointed to the spot, giving new signing Ioan Hughes an opportunity to celebrate his debut with a goal, which he duly grabbed, by tucking away the spot kick and ensuring maximum points. Bro now have 22 points with Cemaes on 16.

But coming up on the rails is a Valley team who once again showed they are serious contenders as their victory over Holy Isle proved. They are a side who can concede a goal [or two] without too much concern as the team has proven goal scorers in their ranks and who are more than capable of `doubles and trebles’. Holy Isle, who are considered as serious Challengers for a top two/three finish found it heavy going in this local Derby and were two down at the break with goals from Adam Roberts and Shaun Jenkins.

Though the Isle battled to get back into the game they were hit twice more by Jenkins as he completed yet another hat-trick which puts him up there as Top scorer in the league, and moveS his team into runner-up position four points behind leaders and sees Cemaes drop to third. So as we approach the Christmas break, Bro Goronwy are now looking over their shoulder at Valley and Cemaes, who both have games ,in hand of the leaders.

Llangefni Town Reserves, who have played the least number of league games, they have four in hand on the leaders, could, if they won them be level on points at the top with Bro Goronwy. They travelled to Llanfairpwll Reserves and did their goal difference a power of good as they quickly set about the home defence and were rewarded with goals, thanks to strikes from Llion Vaughan Jones, Dylan Williams, and Paul Rowlands who all scored singles, whilst Gerallt Roberts matched them all with three of his own to complete a well taken hat-trick and register a six nil verdict.
