CEMAES CELEBRATE CLAIMING CUP FINAL PLACE AGAIN

AS THEY WIN BATTLE OF THE BAYS

Cemaes Bay quickly overcame any disappointment at being knocked out of the NWCFA Junior Cup Quarter-Final in a penalty shoot-out by booking their place in a second Cup final with a 4-0 victory over Trearddur Bay United Reserves in last Saturdays semi-final of The HUWS GRAY Megan Cup.

On a dismal cold March day, at a windswept School lane the conditions were never going to allow an open free flowing game of football as both sides looked to utilize the wind to their advantage when playing with it at their backs. Cemaes began well and it was unlucky thirteen for the visitors when Captain, Steve Mason put Cemaes ahead [13]. Trearddur, battled hard to keep the home strike force from adding a second and running away with the game, and looked on course to do so with half-time approaching [h/t 1-0].

It had to be all or nothing in the second period for the visitors as they looked to use the wind to their advantage to pull a goal back and make for an interesting second half, but within four minutes of the re-start, youngster, Huw Torr, delivered a telling blow by making it 2-0 and it was going hard for the visitors to pull it back, and then after all their hard work in closing down the opposition outfield players, it proved to be all in vain as the host extended their lead through GOAL-KEEPER, John Aaron Jones who watched his `shot’ - up field, sail into the roof of the net. [3-0]. That was it, Trearddur knew then it was not going to be their day. Cemaes could now take the foot of the pedal knowing that Trearddur were never going to score four and with eight minutes remaining Cemaes made it four themselves, thanks to Kieran Thomas

So Cemaes have two cup finals to look forward to – both against Valley, and another semi-final [against Valley] and are still in the BWLCH Car Boot Trophy and COULD win the League title if they win ALL their remaining games, one of which is against Valley. BUT Valley still have to play leaders all season – Bro Goronwy, both home and away, and draws in both games would give Cemaes the edge they need

CEMAES BAY REPORT SUBMITTED:-

Cemaes already in the Dargie cup final looked to get into the Megan cup final vs a Trearddur bay team who they faced for the fourth time this season. The game was touch and go whether it would be on or not as the wind continued to make conditions worse. Referee Mr Heinz Broering insisted game on!
Cemaes kicked off and lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation and new that the game would be won in midfield as Trearddur bay are a team who like to play passing football. The first chance fell to Huw Torr on 12 mins when his shot shaved the woodwork. Cemaes took the lead on 35 mins when Captain Steve mason curled in a superb free kick. The wind continued to affect both teams passage of play with passes and shots going astray due to the wind. Cemaes had played superbly first half and passed and spread the ball superbly which didn't go unnoticed as Trearddur bay manager Nigel chambers said upon half time it's the best half of football he's seen this season! With the wind continuing the message off the management team was "keep the ball on the deck"
Second half started and the first chance of the half fell to Trearddur bay but for keeper john Arran Jones stopping superbly. Huw Torr shortly made it 2-0 when Keenan Downey chased down what seemed a lost ball to put through Torr who slotted it in. As mentioned a few times in this report in regards to the wind the third goal of the game was because of the wind when keeper john Arran Jones long goal kicked got the wind behind it and deceived everyone and went in. A bizarre moment! The fourth was added when Shaun Pritchard crossed the ball in for Kieran Thomas to meet it with a header. Game over 4-0 and bay into another final. It was important after a disappointing last grasp defeat to valley and a penalty shoot out loss to Llandudno in the last two games that Cemaes reacted and bounce back in the right way and they did.
