The William Hill Elias Cup round 1

In the William Hill Elias Cup round 1 League leaders Llangoed, despite enjoying the ideal start, were eliminated by Valley after extra-time. Mitchell Jones had put them ahead cracking home a right wing cross from the edge of the box and they managed to hold the lead through to half-time
The second half belonged to Valley as they totally crushed any challenge from the hosts, and yet they still trailed to the Jones strike with seven minutes remaining. This was down in no small part to keeper Rhys Owen who carried on from last week’s outstanding performance against title rivals Holyhead Town. He flung himself full length to push away a thundering free-kick from MOM Tommy Jenkins and then improved on that with an amazing double save from the same player. He was at full stretch to palm away a goal bound effort from Jenkins, and though grounded somehow managed to lever himself up to turn away the follow-up.
It looked like Llangoed were going to hang on for a hard earned victory – even if not deserved, but with the minutes ticking away a right wing cross was smashed home by Danny Roberts............................and so to extra-time, and with no further goals and two minutes left the managers were beginning to draw up the list of their five penalty takers. But those lists were torn up and thrown to one side when Danny Roberts scored with a replica of his first and Valley were safely through.
After the game, Llangoed Manager, Vincent Walker was quick to pay credit to Valley when he said, “... it was frustrating to see them equalize so close to the end. I thought we might just hang on, even though we didn’t play well. But let’s not take anything away from Valley they totally bossed the second half and deserved their win
Second placed Holyhead Town were looking to progress - with ease, at the expense of Bodorgan Juniors but it didn’t exactly go to plan. Bod’, unbeaten in their last two games, struck an early blow when Luke Allaway raced on to a through ball to fire home [2 0]. The hosts settled but found custodian Josh Roberts in top form but with the break five minutes away Town, finally managed to beat him and draw level. A run by Barry Lavelle ended with a cross that was met by Tom Hedley and it was all square
The second half followed a similar pattern and MOM Jacky Welsh causing havoc in the visitors half as they looked for a `winner’ and even when the hosts were reduced to ten following a red card there was no let up with Welsh prompting and providing. It paid off, and with twenty minutes remaining an inviting cross from Ricky Lavelle was met by Tom Hadley throwing himself full length to find the net with a tremendous diving header. Hadley looked to have made it safe with a tremendous free-kick that would have completed his hat-trick but was kept out by an equally tremendous save by Josh Roberts. Roberts pulled of another excellent save but Holyhead went through 2 v1
Bryngwran Bulls also go through. Osian Jones scored for Pentraeth Reserves but the Bulls hero was James Ryan who scored all his team’s three in their 3-1 victory.
